Can't believe I found it after so many years

As a child, I bought this book through the Weekly Reader service, for 25 cents. I saw it in a book store for nearly 40 dollars. When I saw it on eBay, for the price that was offered, I just had to get it. Recently, I'd been working in the construction business, and this book started that fascination. The product arrived very quickly, thanks to a reputable seller. The children in my neighborhood, who asked that I read it to them, love the story. The moral of the story is that you're never too old, or out of date, to be useful. Keep on trying. I love the book, and was glad that eBay had it at an affordable price.

This was a favorite book of my son when he was young. I was so very glad to be able to purchase it from the seller. She did such a good job and was very prompt when sending it. The price was good and not much for the shipping. I would purchase from this seller again. Thanks for the way you handled everything.

My husband read this book all the time when he was in elementary school. So when we had our son this past year he looked everywhere for it. He finally found it together with a video on ebay. Now he reads the book to our son and they both sit and watch the video together.

Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel
Review created: 09/13/06

Mike Mulligan and his antiquated, but faithful friend Maryann the steam shovel provide a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about many lifr issues such as bragging, hard work, dealing with unpleasant people, and problem solving. Boys especially love this book; It's one we read five times in a row and it was met with much enthusiasm each time.

Pros:
Classic

Cons:
illustrations are a little out of date

This to me is a classic story that should be read over and over to children from a young age. I read it to a group of 3 and 4 year olds and they all seemed to enjoy it. Mike Mulligan and Mary Anne are a team. Mary Anne is Mikes steam shovel they work together until modern machines force them out of the big cities and into the country. They arrive in a small town and find they are in need of a town hall cellar Mike Mulligan tells the selectmen that he and Mary Anne can dig the cellar in one day. The town gives them the job and as the work begins more and more people watch as they work. This...

  We Really Dig This Book
Review created: 10/31/00
by: Trevsmom -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
teaches that there can be new uses for old things

Cons:
none

I remember reading this book when I was a kid. My son is starting to enjoy it now. I love to share favorite things from my childhood with my son and this book, Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel is no exception. Originally published in 1939, it has lasted for generations. It is truly a timeless story. On page 1 we are introduced to Mike and his big red steam shovel named Mary Anne. Together, Mike and Mary Anne went on many jobs. They dug canals, leveled fields for airplane landing strips, and dug the cellars for the skyscrapers in the big cities. Everywhere they went a crowd would surely...
