Another hit comedy written by Guest and Levy

Chirstopher Guest and Eugene Levy have written another perfect mockumentary. The cast is as great as they were in the other Guest movies (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show).

The movie follows three folk groups who are reuniting for a memorial concert for their deceased producer. Each of the bands and bandmates is a perfect mock of actual folk groups and the entire rejuvenation of old music with PBS specials. Pay attention though, because the jokes as with all Guest movies are wittily created with word play in addition to the out of this world characters. The songs are awful and perfectly so. Everything is a great send-up of actual folk music and groups.

The bonus material is pretty good. The commentary with Guest and Levy is good and funny at times. The TV special of the concert is great. All of the songs in their entirety and even funnier.

This is a great movie and one worth watching many times. Get it for your collection, you'll love watching it over and over.

I love this ensemble whether its heavy metal or dogs on parade. Their collective tongue alternates between a position firmly in cheek and sticking straight out in your face. I recalled some of the best musical moments in Robert Altman's "Nashiville". Writing, performance and coherence - all above average. Having grown up in the era of sanitized folk music, I saw many real faces peaking from behind the cartoon-like characters. Laugh (at times uncomfortably) at a sad sack the human condition in America presents us. Own it. Watch it. Share it with a geezer like yourself.

To anyone who grew up in the 50's and 60's, names like Ian & Sylvia, the Kingston Trio and the (New) Christy Minstrels were the voices of contemporary music.
"A Mighty Wind" parodys groups like this in a light but humorous tale about a reunion in the post-folk era. While occasionally tedious, Mitch's unscheduled tourist trip for example, the premise of this movie entertaining to those who grew up in this period.

If you like comedy, this movie is for you. It's very quick and witty about the music business and friendship, and after repeated viewings, still makes me laugh. The entire cast is great. Mr. Guest directs and acts in movies that are so good natured, yet thoughtfully irreverent, that I must go back and see this movie every few moths or so. I think it's by far his best. It's just one of those movies, like Animal House, or Ghostbusters, or a Laurel and Hardy classic that can not be put into words. Just watch it.

Guest, Levy, et al, have done it again

The mockumentary squad strikes again, as Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael McKeon, and a cast of dozens, come together to lampoon the world of folk music with "A Mighty Wind". Beginning with the realistic news report, right on through to the unexpected ending, "Wind" takes apart the genre of folk music and gives it the knocking about it deserves. The acting is excellent, with some performances standing wayyyyyy away from the group...
Levy is incredible as Mitch Cohen, for instance...he steals every scene he's in...and Fred Willard once again plays one of the most annoying characters ever put to film...all in all, it's another in the style of "Best In Show" and of course "This Is Spinal Tap"...these gentlemen and ladies do this voodoo so well, if you're not in on the joke, you wouldn't know...the story does drag a little in a couple of places...Bob Balaban gets a wee bit tedious in places as Jonathan Steinbloom, but in others he's hilarious...and as mentioned, Willard wears out his welcome quickly in more than one scene...but maybe that's the point of his character...anyhoo, buy this movie and enjoy...the embedded pun at the end of the finale is funny...and there's a surprise waiting for you at the end of the movie...I can't wait to see what or who this group lampoons next...I have a list if they need one!

When I saw this in the theatre the audience seemed to have wandered in by mistake, I guess they were too young to remember folk music like I do.

It reminded me of the PBS reunion shows on LSD.

Casting was superb.

Plot twisted enough to make it a pleasure to stay to the end.

I loved it even more the second time

This is a movie spoof of the 60's folk music era. Bringing back 3 groups many years later. It is s fun theme. The movie tends to drag and one of the characters is depressed and has far too much air time which brings down the movie. But he was one of the writers and producers, so he was the boss.
The Main Street Singers a take off of the New Cristy Minstrels were actually very good.
Overall, it was a cute movie but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again.

IT BLOWS, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Review created: 05/09/09

A loving parody of the 60's folk-song genre that is every bit as good as the subject it parodies. The human frailties and foibles of the characters are as off-beat and revealing as a biopic of the real Brady Bunch. Quirky from its coffee-house beat-poet chin beard down to its neo-conservative, anti-establishment sandals, there is nothing lacking in its authenticity. An SCTV sketch on steroids? Naaaah... Organic and Naturally Enhanced, perhaps.

I liked this movie because it was extremely funny and is probably the only movie ever made which is a parody of folk music. Also, the original songs are great. I have wanted to watch this movie since it came out and finally got a chance.

Great movie! Very funny! Thanks for the laughs!AAA+++
Review created: 02/28/08

This is a very funny "mockumentary" of the folk singing groups of the 1960's and 1970's and as one who lived through these times, and remembers some of it, the movie is pretty close to the real thing. Very funny movie, my daughters loved it, too. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the hidden jokes and wacky performances.

If you like folk music from the 1950's and 60's and you like spoofing, you'd probably enjoy this mockumentary. I'd say it's appropriate for all ages. Some of the music althought it's tongue in cheek is really very good.

I already own a copy. This was a gift for some fellow Spinal Tap friends who somehow missed the rest of the madcap gangs collection of Satire Comedy, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show & now the newest, For Your Consideration. Everyone should own at least one copy & send at least one to a friend. Mighty Wind is my personal favorite.

I love this movie, but I love anything this group of filmmakers get together to do. If you like intelligent but silly humor, people not afraid to make fun of them selves, by all means get this film and any other by Christopher Guest and Co.
