Be warned, if you start watching the Midsomer Murders series, it's entirely likely you will plunk down your hard earned cash for the entire series. The film series stars John Nettles as Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, and Daniel Casey as Detective Seargent Gavin Troy.
The series is based on Caroline Graham's village murder series though if you have already read the books you will notice some slight differences in the series. For example, Sgt. Troy is more likeable in the film series though perhaps not quite as interesting as in the Graham novels. It doesn't matter really because if you are a fan of the traditional village mystery a` la Agatha Christie, look no further.
Don't try to compare Barnaby to Poirot and Troy to Captain Hastings because it would be a waste of time. However, Midsomer Murders' detective team, Barnaby and Troy somehow manage to combine the English village murder mystery tradition with a new century that includes forensic science to make the perfect murdery mystery for enthusiasts.

This is a wonderful example of BBC television. This is a series of mysteries set in the English county of Midsomer (hence the name). The chief deective is 50-ish, married, with a daughter. He solves crimes with common sense and good police work. The other characters in the villages involved are often quite colorful. Stories are down-to-earth and very believable.

This is so awesome! I LOVE John Nettles and Daniel Casey together are magical. If you have read any of the DCI Barnaby books by Caroline Graham, you will find that Daniel Casey IS Gavin Troy and no one could play Barnaby but John Nettles. They are to Caroline Graham's characters what David Suchet is to Dame Christie's Poirot. Fair warning, once you started watching you won't be able to stop!

This is a FUN series to watch and have.
Being able to watch the complete series from the first to the last is awesome as you can see the characters grow and the changes in their relationship.....

Midsomer Murder Mysteries are cozy English Murder mysteries that have a very satisfying solution. They have humor, family interest lines, intrigue, and just a little bit of acceptable violence to make a point.
They do not have uncomfortable situations that make you feel that you have to endure sex, extreme violence or uncalled for profanity.

This really is an excellent series, I love the English countryside and the fact that all the murders that need investigating are committed by what you think are "normal" country people.
I hated having to wait a week in between episodes so that's why I bought the complete set, even though I have seen most of the series I can't wait to watch them all again at my own leisure.
Highly recomended for the detectives in all of us.

Being a long-time John Nettles fan, and having enjoyed the Midsomer Murders series, I purchased this set as a Christmas gift. This series has the best of British mystery plots and subplots, great scenery set in present-day England.

I have always enjoyed watching Midsomer Murders on BBC and the Biography Channel. But, since they have pretty much quit airing the mysteries, I've decided that by buying I can enjoy watching them over and over. I was very pleased to find them on e-bay. In fact, I did the Buy Now to so I could speed up the transaction.
