Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt (1994, Hardcover)

I spent 4 days in Savannah this July and had to buy this book! The references to the town and some of the local "characters" takes me back to my visit. We enjoyed to town and it's history very much. There were references to the book during a couple tours we took which peaked my interest. I had seen the movie several years ago but the book is better. It's an easy read, too.

Easy read, great characters, interesting insight to the history of Savannah! Loved it. Surprisingly the Garden is not in Savanah.

I read the book, saw the movie and just this last week went to Savannah to see if the book was real or fiction. I loved the city, the book and everything about the southern town and its adventures. Lindale, TX

Altho this book is fiction, there must be more fact involved than one would imagine. It does stretch the mind and is obvisouly the wondering of a most different mind. I'm not atall sure why I purchased it, it was quite interesting, albeit an accounting that would not interest me in reality. Read it and then respond to this review.

it was very desscriptive made you feel as if you were there not just an on looker but part of the story why did i buy it? i was told about the book by a friend she said i would enjoy it sense i like mysteries she was right

I read this book while in Savannah for 3 weeks. I hadn't read it prior but a shop owner and lifetime resident of the city convinced me I should.

The city I was learning to love because it is historic and eccentric came to life in the pages of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". I sat in one of the city's wonderful squares facing the now famous Mercer house as I read. I had breakfast at Clary's and drank bourbon on the riverfront. All of this would just have been another tourist's time in a southern city were it not for this book.

Passion, mystery, southern culture... Read it. Love it. Remember it - and go to Savannah, and Bonaventure cemetery in nearby Thunderbolt.

This book goes into great details about the city of Savannah and a lot of its occupants. Savannah is a beautiful city and has a lot of charm. The book clearly shows this.

I did not care for the voodoo, evil spirit part in the story.

Enjoyed the movie, read the book, the book has more details that filled in the spaces the movie left to your imagination. Would recommend to everyone who liked the movie.

I have really enjoyed reading this book. I have visited Savannah before but not the way this book presents it. I have seen the movie and I have to tell you that the movie was good but the book is better.

Loved the book, wish I had read it BEFORE I went to Savannah but I can still picture a lot of what is described in the book. Excellent reading and I would still like to hear more about Savannah, a magical Southern city. Makes me want to return to Savannah now to see all of the places that I remember from my whirlwind trip and to see the places mentioned that I didn't see. I found this book filled with good information on the sights of the city. I would recommend this book not only for the story, but especially for the information to be gleaned prior to visiting the city.

The book was in much better condition than what I was expecting. I really enjoyed the book. It is much better than the movie, much more character development

My husband had this signed copy years ago and could not find it after his divorce. We were in Savannah four years ago, (which is one of our favorite cities), and I went to the store that had signed copies, (bookplates), and picked one up for him. It wasn't the same as an actual copy signed on a page. We had both read the book and have seen the movie a few times each.............so I decided to go on e-bay to get a 'signed' copy for him, which is a nice addition to our library.

I received the book, which appeared to be in excellent condition. The time frame in which I received the purchase was excellent! Thank you...and will order again from this party!

John Berendt created a masterpiece. it's leisurely almost comfortable reading that is very well written. the words are chosen carefully. the dialog is rather amazing. but the twist is the subject matter deals with a neurotic personality that seems to be par for the course in Savannah. and it's not fiction, it just feels like fiction, rather surreal.

The book was just what I was looking for, my only gripe is that book rate USPS takes forever to deliver.
