I tested this thing out some time ago and I admit, I was skeptical. I wanted to see what Microsoft stripped from it to keep it sleek and attractive. Surprisingly enough, it's definitely a nice alternative to the iPod Nano or Shuffle.
The pad that the Zune uses is nice, allowing both quick swipes and pressing to allow precise scrolling. It's no touch screen, but it's a start. The familiar buttons are essentially there, though they stick out a bit now. Travelers who put these in their pockets may not want to add anything else to the same pocket, otherwise you'll need to lock the device. I liked the original Zune because the buttons were curved in, so even if you didn't lock the device, you wouldn't have to worry about it jumping to the next track due to a bump. iPods were always disastrous about this.
The GUI is nice. It's a bit flashier and makes it feel more modern. The introduction to podcasts is nice as well. My old Zune downloaded the GUI as well, so both work with the new system. I thought that was brilliant of Microsoft to do, so older Zune fans won't be completely left out.
The software is better then the original software, though I still don't understand why Zune 2 doesn't have Windows Media support. (Meaning you can't sync with WMP) The software does seem more sync friendly however, as I've yet to have songs mysteriously disappear like the original software did. It loads tremendously faster too, which is amazing considering it's more visual.
The sound quality is still there, so you won't be disappointed. All in all, it's definitely worth the price it's at. I prefer this over the iPod Nano simply because of the GUI and my hatred for iTunes.

You've tried the Ipod now try the best!!!! Seriously this little electronic device works so much better than the Apple I-pod. You can do so much with it....and sharing your fav tunes with a friend (on a trial basis) is another great feature. I would highly recommed this. I absolutely love it!!

I am very happy with my 8GB Zune. The small size is perfect for putting in my pocket to carry with me whenever I want music or a book. Mainly I wanted it for audio books. It's great for listening to books but it could be easier to load them.

I looked at a lot of portable music players and decided on the Zune and was not disappointed. It includes the largest variety of media including radio, podcasts, picture, videos, and ofcourse music. I loved my 4 gb so well i had to up date to an 8 GB, only down fall is it comes with no instructions and takes some time to figure out how to download and delete.

The 8 GB Zune is a great alternative to the super-popular iPod. There are loads of features packed into this small device, including most of the ones found on an iPod. I especially enjoyed using the ZunePad, which is the main navigation used when browsing the Zune. It was very responsive and easy to use. The other two buttons on the front were nice and glossy, with a nice feel to them. The other physical things on the Zune (headphone jack, USB port, and 'Hold' switch) were nice and out-of-the way. The back of the Zune featured a different type of metal used than the iPod, resulting in a lot less scratching. And the front of the Zune had a very nice gloss and color to it. Navigation through the screen was easy to see and felt sort of natural. Like everything in the world, the Zune isn't perfect. It felt extremely lightweight (like the 2nd gen. iPod Nano). The firmware froze on me once, during the first week. That's about it.. if you're looking for an alternative to the iPod (like I was), be sure to check out the Microsoft Zune.

The Zune 8GB itself is excellent -- great sound, clear video and photos, and decent FM receiver to boot. What makes it fall just short of an "excellent" rating in my mind, however, is the software that you're obliged to use to download anything. I cannot imagine why Microsoft failed to make the Zune "drag and drop" compatible with its own Windows Media Player program (to say nothing of Real Player, iTunes, or any other media player). It makes moving music and video files from PC to Zune more cumbersome than it should be. Beyond that, the Zune is a terrific MP3 and worth recommending.

My daughter loves this MP3 player. It is a nice compact size, has several capabilities (music, video, photos, etc.), great sound, includes fm radio, and holds a large amount of music--she may not even know 2000 songs.

I love the Zune, it's better then my ipod. I bought it for my mother's birthday. I just need to load the program online which was easy then upload her music. It's in large print so you can see everything and it's in great condition! A+ Product!

I bought this originally for the radio feature, but found it so easy to use, straight forward displays, video,music, etc... I only wish I bought the one with 80gb...just for the extra space, for videos' especially( I don't mean music videos) over all I really enjoy this, and preffer it over a ipod !

I love the ease of transferring music to it and creating playlists with ease. This is much better than the Philips player I had (and then gave to my daughter when I got this one). The sound quality is great. I decided to buy a Zune when I had a lot of problems with transferring playlists to my Philips player. I made a great decision on this purchase!
