The best choice for online gaming

Microsoft has made a very solid gaming console even if it is a little bulky. With a Built in ethernet and HD it has this advantage over the PS2 since you would have to buy the $30 Ethernet adapter and the a $70 Sony HD to equal XBOX's Hardware. Xbox's processor is more than twice as fast as the PS2 (XBOX@700Mhz compared to PS2@266Mhz) This allows for much more simultanious visualizations (ie. Halo 2) Just for the record I am not a PS2 hater as I own 2 of them and I enjoy GT4 and GTA: Vice City very much. If you can afford it I recommend buying the XBOX for online gaming and the PS2 for offline gaming such as GT4 and GTA.

You have to hand it to Microsoft - the Xbox rocks

I have to admit I was prepared to hate the Xbox when it first launched. I loved my PlayStation 2. I hated Microsoft. And then I played the Xbox...

I was really impressed by the graphics, the great games and the superior online experience that the Xbox offers. I was excited because online gaming would never be the same, and yet I was disappointed that Microsoft in its first attempt at gaming could outdo my beloved Sony PlayStation system.

Are there any weak points for the Xbox, you ask? Yes. The system is big and bulky. If you are tight on space then a PlayStation 2 Slim might be a better choice for you. And unlike the PlayStation 2, you have to pay to play online in the Xbox Live environment. But beyond those flaws, you really have to stretch to find any chinks in Xbox armor. It is a solid machine.

There are some places that the PlayStation 2 beats the Xbox (see my PlayStation 2 guide here: http://search.reviews.ebay.com/?fvcs=1452&sopr=43557617&uaid=14111642&upvr=4), but I'd have to say the Xbox slightly beats out the PlayStation 2 overall. Curse you Bill Gates! ;) Kidding, kudos to the Xbox folks for producing a quality system.

I got this Xbox when it first came out. When i got it, none of my friends had it but i bought it because it was different. I loved the games even before xbox live. I loved Halo: Combat Evolved and other great ones like Crimson Skies. But when Xbox Live came out all my friends got it. You can have music and watch DVD's the graphics are great also.

I Love my Xbox.

p.s. i would not suggest buying the Xbox right now. I would wait for the 360

AMAZING !! But Dont Pay More Than $5

This is a great product! But it can be expensive! I'm glad I found www.ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk where I got mine for free :)

All I did was sign up and then completed ONE offer. I recommend the Intuit 30 day FREE trial ,OR the Seattle Coffeeoffer as it is FREE to complete and takes a few minutes!

There are many alternative offers you can complete such as the King.com offer where you have play through $5. There is a chance you will win your money back anyway!

There are many other gadgets I can get for free this way, such as consoles, iPhones, iPods, Plasma TV's and the list goes on

Visit: www.ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk

before you think about putting your hands into your pocket for this gadget.

The site can afford to send out these "free" gifts because you have to complete an offer first. They get paid commission when me and you do so, which is used to buy the gift with money left over as profit for them!

I hope you enjoy the extra $$$'s saved in your bank account from using ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk :)

Thrilling Gameplay, Cutting Edge Technology, Pure Fun
Review created: 12/11/06

Although this original XBOX system is turning six years old, there is no reason not to buy or play one, still. First of all, you still have new games coming out for the XBOX, even though XBOX 360, an upgrade to this XBOX system, has already been released. This system is definitely great for kids, especially adults. Why would a video game console be great for an adult? There is a product within the XBOX line released, called XBOX Live. It is only three years old, and it is the best upgrade for the XBOX system, yet.

Using the XBOX Live, you communicate and play XBOX Live enabled games (which are most of them) with millions of enthusiastic gamers throughout the entire world! You don't only play with people from the United States, you will play with people from Australia, Germany, Japan, France, England, Italy, and even Norway!

This is how the games do not get old. By using the XBOX Live, you play with new people everyday, and that is basically how the gameplay will change every single day!

This boasts a 733 MHz processor, which makes the graphics look very real. You can put your own music on the system, enabling you to listen to your favorite song, right in the middle of the video game!

There are tons of game choices for this system, with many being released each month, and yes 6 years later. You or your kids will never run out of fun things to do with this original XBOX system.

Important: This comes with a huge hard drive, so you do not even need to purchase a memory card just to save a game!

If you do decide to purchase this, opt for Xbox's Controller S, as it is much easier and better to operate than the original bulky one during gameplay.

Likes: Very little game lag, Huge game selection, Xbox Live, DVD player, Graphics, Hard drive, Nice design, Good quality

Dislikes: Big & Bulky

The Verdict: If you are looking for an excellent gaming console, with great technology, the ability to play with millions of gamers across the world, and especially if you are on a budget, this Xbox will be the best choice, coming in at about $100 brand new.

  Xbox vs. Playstation 2

Xbox vs. PlayStation 2
All game consoles are the same, right? They all play games; what else do they need to do? A game is a game no matter what console it is played on, isn’t it? Even though Xbox and PlayStation 2 essentially do the same things; they are very different!
First and foremost is the price of the units. Yes they both cost the same, $149.99, but the thing to consider is the options that come with each console. Xbox and PlayStation both come with a controller, power cord, AV connector, and of course, the game console. Take a look at the other options that come and don’t come with each system.
When looking at functionality; Xbox has a built-in hard drive, for storing game saves and download content or map packs off of CD-Rom disks. On the other hand, PlayStation 2 also has a hard drive, but it is not included with the unit, it is sold separately, for about $50. Furthermore, there is always the option to buy a memory card for your game saves on both systems, but one is not needed for Xbox. While, either a memory card or a hard drive purchase will be required for PlayStation 2, if not, the games being played will start over from the beginning, every time the console is powered off and then back on. Memory cards on both systems range from around $10 to $20.
There is another item that needs to be bought separately for the PlayStation 2, a network adapter that is needed for online gaming, which costs about $30. The network adapter is something that comes built-in to the Xbox and is included in the base price.
When it comes to DVDs, both can play them, but in order to play movies on Xbox a remote control is needed, the cost is $29.99. This is a function that PlayStation 2 is capable of right out of the box. Yes, for PlayStation 2 a remote control is available for about $19.99, but it is not needed for movie playback.
Moving on, an examination of processor speeds, video output, audio output and size are needed.
When it comes to processor speed, the Xbox beats out PlayStation 2 by more than double. When it comes to the video output it is exactly double. What that translates out to be is that the Xbox is far more capable of displaying awe- inspiring graphics. Nonetheless, the PlayStation 2 is capable of displaying some amazing graphics as well, but when the maximum resolution is examined it is clear who the winner is. With Xbox’s maximum resolution at 1920 x 1080 and PlayStation 2’s at 1280 x 1024, there is a noticeable difference.
Next is the audio output, they are both capable of playing in stereo, Dolby Digital, and DTS, so in that regards, there is really no difference to be noted.
Does size really matter? With the Xbox weighing in at about double the weight and incapable of being stood up on its side, like its competitor, it can be difficult to find a proper spot on the shelf for it. But, then again, does size really matter?
In the end, even the costs of the gaming systems are different. To have a PlayStation with a hard drive, a network adapter, and the optional remote the cost would be around $249.99. An Xbox with the same options will cost $179.98, that’s about a $70 savings, not to mention having “twice the machine.” So yes, Xbox and PlayStation do the same thing, yet are very different.

  Original XBOX still a champion

There are so many great titles for the XBOX that it was really hard to sell it on ebay. If money is no problem upgrade to the 360. However the original XBOX is still in my opinion an awesome system with plenty of video games at a really reduced price.

A must for the XBOX ... HALO AND HALO-2

  Microsoft XBOX- EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES
Review created: 09/04/06

This is my favorite console of all time! I bought my first Xbox when it first came out a number of years ago when it first came to market. It is still going strong in my household. I still get good use out of it. The graphics are solid and the controls, in my opinion, are much better than that of PS1&2. Because of the number of buttons that the control offers, it makes gameplay much more involved and sophisticated. Not along the lines of "button smashing" like some many other consoles. Not only did Microsoft make a superb console with lots of power for its day, but it continues to improve on its technology by being the first to release the next generation console, the 360. The original Xbox has so much to offer because of the community supporting its continued development. With numerous websites dedicated to the modification of the harware, it has definitely not gone out of vogue despite the recent cannibalization from the 360 and the upcoming PS3. I get lots of use out of it by taking advantage of these hardware and software improvements spurred on by fans like myself. Today, I use my original XBOX to play old school emulators, listen to my music, and watch DIVX movies. Its the best console ever!

Without doubt the Xbox is a great system. If online play is your thing then this system cant be beat! Some of the earlier versions suffered from a faulty DVD system and were slightly noisy. My original Xbox sounded like a 747 on take off, however newer versions corrected these problems. With the newer Xbox 360 about to be launched worldwide (November 2005) the price of the original Xbox should fall. Making this machine even more of a bargain.

  Xbox the greatest console ever!
Review created: 10/05/05

8 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Well when I was growing up I the NES was just becoming a thing of greatness, I played it and then the SNES, after that I grew up and never really played console games again, played computer games a bunch but that was it. The xbox came out and the PS2 and I thought they looked nice and I thought about getting one or the other and seeing what they were really like but I never did until last year after that had come down to $150. I mainly did it to play halo because I had always heard it was a killer game. If you have never played it let me tell you, it really is!
Probably the the one main thing that makes the xbox better than the PS2 is the fact that you can really mod it, I mean put on a whole other dashboard, make it into a media center, all sorts of great stuff......Hell you can ever get adaptors for USB things, install Linux on it and turn it into a computer... It is just an amazing console, one that has made me sell my gaming computer, one that has me reading everything I can about the xbox360 and impatiently waiting for it. I truly love everything about the xbox and don't think there is anything I would change.......Even though I will be getting an 360, I will be keeping one of my xboxes (I have three) that I have modded into pretty much a media hub. My xbox is more that just a console it is a media center.

  Xbox vs Xbox 360???
Review created: 02/19/06

7 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Okay what can I say about the old XBox? Well I can say this, my household has 3 of them, I also have 4 PSP's, 4 PS2's and 5 computers. By far the old Xbox has it all over the new xbox 360. First off the old xbox is reliable, its graphics are awesome and with a convertor the sound is killer. With the old Xbox has numberous game titles to choose from whereas the new xbox 360 has very little to choose from. The ease at which you can play is excellent. If you like shooter games the xbox has it over the PS2. I completed Big Red One on PS2 then got this Xbox regular and played it on there and my ability to shoot the enemy was increased 100 fold. Then to play online is a breeze. The online games are all player friendly. If you are shopping of a game console and can't seem to make up your mind, and you have limited funds the old xbox is by far the best economical choice to make whereas the new Xbox 360 if everything is bought to play it will cost you a small fortune. Yet with the old Xbox you can be up and playing with little to nothing down. My vote goes with the old Xbox.

  Microsoft XBOX
Review created: 02/06/06
7 of 10 people found this review helpful.

The XBOX is Microsofts first entry into the game console world. When it first came out it had its share of lack luster titles, with the exception of Halo. For that generation the XBOX was the most powerful and fully featured console. You can play games, DVD movies (with the playback kit), and you could listen to CD's and store them on the built-in harddrive. What really gave the XBOX it's advantage was XBOX Live. An online service that allowed gamers to play against anyone in the world with an XBOX and LiVE. This was truly a remarkable step for the gaming community since Microsoft seems to be the only company that was able to successfully pull it off. LiVE adds hundreds more replay hours to games since each time you go on it's a new challenge. The XBOX is also powerful enough to provide 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound (in compatible games) to provide an even more astounding gaming experience. The XBOX is now on par with the PSTwo in terms of quality titles with the exception of having really stellar RPG's. But for fans of action oriented games the XBOX is now a very affordable package to consider.

  Old School Gamer Gone New
Review created: 12/12/05

6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I've been though all of the systems in the past...NeoGeo, Genenis, Master System, NES, SNES, N64, PS. I loved all of the systems before the "Next Generations" as they were called. I was blown away with the PS2 at E3, so I got one when it first came out. I never bothered with the GameCube or xBox because there was no backwards compatablity, nor was there any landmark games that defined the system (Pre-Halo craze mind you). At first i mocked the xBox because there were no games for it.

Recently my friend gave me his old xBox...and after a few hours I was hooked. Seeing Halo 2 and just simple games like Tony Hawk Underground on the xBox, there is no comparision...the xBox just can put it better. Also, little known fact...most latter xBox games HAVE HiDef SUPPORT out of the box. You need to buy a $20 adapter, but let me tell you...its well worth it. You just need to look on the back of the xBox games boxes.

In the matter of system functions and mods for the xBox, the list is endless, where the PS2 lags. With the 360 now out, I highly suggest that you invest your money into the 360. If you are someone that wants to mod a system or make a simple machine into a monster...then I highly recommend getting an xBox.

I love my XBox. It has the best games available, much better than PS2 and Gamecube, and I think it has the best graphics of the three. Has a built in DVD player which is great, but you have to buy the DVD Playback kit. That is the only drawback I can think of. Great system for the money to, at only 150 (cheaper here on eBay) it is a steal.

I loved the graphics and the fact you don't need a memory card to save games and music. I like the fact that you can play online, but the prices are too high. With the prices of games so high you should get a free membership to go online. The console was upsettingly heavy and the controlers felt a bit to big for younger children. I bought the XBOX becuase it competes with my Playstation. I like to keep up with new editions and their improvements. If you want great graphics buy the XBOX.

eh... The Xbox is ok, but it's compitition is just as good in different ways. The PS2 has way better one player games and play control. The Xbox controller is just f'd up. Then if you want good multiplayer games, the Xbox is a good choice (but not a great selection of games except Doom and Halo). But, if you want something you can play with your girlfriend, she won't be able to play anything but the easy multiplayers on the Gamecube, which also has hella faster loading time.
