XBOX 360 Elite is great if you want to run HDD space
Review created: 04/30/07(updated 08/18/07)
by:
294 of 320 people found this review helpful.

This review is to review the focuses differences that are not on a "standard" XBOX 360 and the Elite, and rate the system as a new purchase, not an upgrade or replacement to your current XBOX 360, but overall.

When the Elite was first announced, the biggest thing that made this different than the other two versions: the HDMI output. Now, after the new XBOX 360 price drop announcement and hardware update, the only difference between the Elite and the Premium is the 120GB Hard Drive and included HDMI cable.

Almost everything about the Xbox 360 in white stands true for the Elite: It theoretically doesn't run cooler, or quieter, or faster, and you've already know that it is black. The Elites should have the added heat sink for realiability, but all models should be receiving that soon.

Don't let the black paint job distract you; the only thing you need to ask is if it improves the video quality and after many reviews and hours using this machine, the XBox Elite's HDMI output is the pretty darn good, and the 120GB hard drive upgrade is nice for all that downloadable content that you have been picking up on th market place.

Should you buy it?

Gamers who have an Xbox 360? No!

Videophiles looking for an HD DVD player? No!

Videophiles looking to get into the Xbox Live video marketplace? Yes, but know that this thing is still loud and you can now get HDMI in the newly manufactured XBOX Premiums.

Guys like me who are gamers and video geeks? Ya, this is for you. The fact that all that video and audio is being piped through a single HDMI cable is a bonus. I swear it's a touch cooler and quieter, and I could want it to be such, but reports say it is not.

When running the HD DVD player, using Tokyo Drift and the newly minted HQV Silicon Optics test disc—the rigorous test disc benchmarks showed the same flaws on both the HDMI and Component outputs. Jaggies That means the video processor between the older and newer Xbox is likely identical, or of identical quality. That's the processor, though. This isn't a high-end HD DVD player. As for the outputs and what I saw with my own eyes and confirmed with my camera. The HDMI's slightly better shadow detail showed itself. That detail might be lost on a lesser TV or the untrained eye. But remember that the component cables are limited to 1080i. So HDMI wins at full 1080p with no compromises, but with VGA cables you have a draw.

Playing games, Command and Conquer and Virtua Tennis yielded no differences between the 1080p signals of all three cables—except the strange washed out colors that the VGA cables sometimes show (GRAW and Gears of War, for starters). The HDMI again has that shadow detail boost that comes up over and over again. HDMI wins for a better picture, even though all cables do the 1080p dance with games.

Final Verdict:

It runs HDMI 1.2 (not 1.3 - the newest version), only runs 5.1 Dolby still (no 7.1 yet), and only has the bonus of the larger hard drive, and sleek styling. The 360 Elite is worth getting if you are just now entering the high definition video game market and need the extra hard drive space for all your goodies - if not, then save yourself $100 and get the newly updated Premium with HDMI, packaged with a game bundle (if you can find them) and game on.

You have a HDMI get this! Better Value than Premium!
Review created: 04/30/07(updated 04/30/07)
by:
74 of 91 people found this review helpful.

The Xbox 360 Elite currently now is a better value than the $399 Premium console.
The premium console has only a 20GB Hard drive and Component cables, which makes
them incompatible to produce the best HD a.k.a. 1080p if you have a TV 46 Inches
or larger. The Hard Drive alone costs $200.Other than that it is pretty much has
the same specs as the premium 360, with a premium finish and wireless controller.
If you have a Standard TV, don't get this, as this only comes with HDMI cable, a
cable suitable only with certain HDTV's.
If you're still thinking getting this or PS3, here are the total values for optimal experience for both:
360 Elite:$479+$50 Xbox Live+$100 Wireless(if you're modem is not close to your 360 you need this)+$190 HD-DVD Drive(OPTIONAL, don't get fooled by others
saying the console have this drive!)
PS3 60gb:$600+$70-$150 for an upgradeable hard drive(optional)
If you missed out on this console, don't be sad, because Microsoft has announced
to make the Elite a standard, meaning these will replace the premiums that most of 360 owners have with the same price($479), same 120gb Hard Drive, white
color by the fall.Overall this is better value than premium and as of this review written, the prices on eBay are not as crazy as PS3's.

This is a great product! But it can be expensive! I'm glad I found www.ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk where I got mine for free :)

All I did was sign up and then completed ONE offer. I recommend the CreditReport 7 day FREE trial ,OR the Seattle Coffeeoffer as it is FREE to complete and takes a few minutes!

There are many alternative offers you can complete such as the King.com offer where you have play through $5. There is a chance you will win your money back anyway!

There are many other gadgets I can get for free this way, such as consoles, iPhones, iPods, Plasma TV's and the list goes on

Visit: www.ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk

before you think about putting your hands into your pocket for this gadget.

The site can afford to send out these "free" gifts because you have to complete an offer first. They get paid commission when me and you do so, which is used to buy the gift with money left over as profit for them!

I hope you enjoy the extra $$$'s saved in your bank account from using ultimate-free-gifts.co.uk :)

360 > Wii >>>>>>> PS3 (I own all 3)

360- identical graphics, identical gaming audio, pc media streaming, better controller, better interface, better aesthetics, better games, more games, better price, xbox live gives you more demos/trailers earlier that then PS3 (if it ever gets them), download/stream TV shows/movies from xbox live

PS3- identical graphics, identical gaming audio, blu-ray may be the next beta, HDMI is nice, games suck (right now), controller is horrible (can't recharge remotely, no rumble, sixaxis is an absolute joke and is not/will not be used), unstable (I'm on unit number 2 already), interface is horrendous, can't stream media from pc, online is embarassing, the online store is even more embarassing, price

Great system that allows to adopt previous Xbox game collection without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Graphics are great, and even more stunning when used with LCD or Plasma on 1080p (HDTV).

System is well responsive and features such as 120GB Hard Drive, Networking/Internet connectivity etc. are make this a great choice!

Highly recommend!

  XBOX 360 Elite Owner's Opinion
Review created: 07/04/07
by:
20 of 23 people found this review helpful.

I bought the XBOX Elite because of the 120 gig hard drive, the HDMI interface, and because I liked the HD DVD capability. Due to my lack of research I found that unlike the Playstation 3 which I also own the XBOX does not play the HD DVD you have to buy another deck. That outs it right up there in price with the PS3. I could have bought a HD DVD player for less but the XBOX does so much more ie)MP3, photo displays, xbox line and it plays the games, everything as high as 1080p resolution if you have a HDTV. So the only dislike I have about it would be the need to go and buy another disc player to play the HDDVD. The PS3 plays BluRays right out of the box. I don't play games much but my son and grand son do and other people that visit the cost of both the PS3 and the XBOX 360 combined is comparable to the price of the new LG DVD player that plays both formats plus you get the games so that made this a more bang for the buck purchase for me. It is very user friendly, more so than PS3 and I really like the onscreen dashboard feature as a big part of that user friendly rating. The universal media remote is another great feature, it too is much better that the PS3. As for over all performance and the resolution on games the nod has to go to the PS3 but I am very pleased with both. I bought both on ebay and I did because they weren't available in this area except at exorbitant prices and I did better than retail on the XBOX369 which was new purchase and better than retail on a package deal for the PS3.

I like them both abd both purchases went very well through ebay.

This is a beast of a console and the elite is just improving on the best of three consoles out there by putting in HDMI, and the largest Hard drive of all of the consoles today (120 GB.

xbox 360 elite vs. xbox 360 vs. ps3
Review created: 07/09/07
by:

I bought my elite because it was new, i liked the black better than the white and none of my friends have the elite so they're all jealeous. It's only better than the white 360 because of the 120GB hard drive, so if you dont need that much memory, i would tape up the cover of your white one and just spray paint it black or something. It would probably be a better cool black anyway. Compared to the PS3, there's a big difference in my opinion. ps3 has blue ray; xbox 360-- dvd adaptor sold seperatly. 60GB vs. 120GB, but that only matters if you really ganna use that much memory. They both allow you to play online. both have wireless controllers... but ps3 has an internal power supply, and with less cables it looks alot cooler when you have it set up under your sony vega high deffinition tv. The XOBX 360 ELITE STILL OVER HEATS LIKE THE FIRST ONES. Microsoft obviously didn't attempt to work on that. I think the only problem with the ps3 is the game selection. there aren't very many.. yet. But then if your a halo fan, your screwed if you get the ps3 as halo 3 is coming out on the 360.

There's many things to consider about both, and your choice between the two depends a lot on what a play, and how much you want to spend.

Modified or repaired system, BIG HASSLE!
Review created: 11/06/08
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Well. I recieved the system in a timely matter and waited to hook it up until I recieved the game, Mass Effect, that I had bought on Ebay. It was about 8 days after purchase of the system that I recieved the game and hooked the system up. There was discoloration on the screen and then nothing. I hooked it up to my computer monitor through an HDMI connection and there was severe distortion and no sound. I complained, since there was a guarantee that the product would be in working order. After some reluctance, the seller promised to send me a new system if there was no sign of tampering. There was no sign of tampering and I recieved a "new" system and some complementary games. Fine if the "new" system worked, right? Well, the "new" system quit after a few minutes of play with THE SAME problem. Here are some quotes from the seller after I bought this "used system": " i did xclamp repair to it and had machine run 7 straight hours and no problems and retested before i boxed it up and worked with hdtv and hdmi it had to of gotten damaged in shipping but like i also said why wait until 8 days later even a dvd played in the xbox would of showed a problems if their was any i know (sic)." Upon reciveing the system a second time not in working order I recieved this: "hi nathan all working great had it on for 3 hours playing halo no problems no wierd anything (sic)." Okay, so he was basically saying their was nothing wrong and it was all in my head. Yet the deal was if I send it back and there was no evidence of tampering he would repair it, right? Well, I recieved a system with some games, which means there WAS NO TAMPERING ON MY PART. So, when the system shows up again not in working order he says it is my fault. After some arguing, he reveals this: "see i sent you another system but it had the same shell all the internals were different well i will not send refund until i see item was shipped back to me and technially i dont even have to since i did sell as is and it goes back to you (sic)." You know what I had to end up doing? It cost me LESS money to pay Microsoft the $99 to repair the repeatedly broken system (or systems if this guy was telling the truth) than it would to deal with this guy to get a damn refund. So watch out and ask a lot of questions if you by from him, because I had an awful experience. If you notice, he not only sells "used" Xboxes but also Xbox parts and motherboards. So if you buy at a low price you are risking a jury-rigged system by what could be, at best, described as an amateur circuit-jockey. My advice, buy a broken system for $200 and spend the 99 bucks to repair VIA MICROSOFT it if you want it cheap. With repairs you get an extended warranty, too. That's what I am doing b/c of this bull!@#$, except I paid $340 for it and could have bought a new one for the same price now that I have to get it repaired BY A PROFESSIONAL. BEWARE, these systems are modified or repaired even he doesn't list them as such.

P.S. For those unaware, "sic" means "as said". Those quotes are direct cuts/pastes from the seller's messages to me.

  {=GREAT QUALITY=} {=Great ACTION=}
Review created: 12/30/07

WOW! First off the Microsoft Xbox Elite is a fine tuned piece of technology. A 120 gig Hard drive enables users to rip music, download movies, music, and games, and of course save game data.

If your a ps2 or ps3 fan the sleek black color will suit your preference.

Second the game titles out include Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Half Life 2, Call of Duty 2, Assasins Creed, Mass Effect, and countless other great games.

HD Quality connection!! The video settings for this console match the ps3 HD blueray settings.

Xbox Elite also has the best online system-XBL-(Xbox Live) which has gamerscores, chat, and a competitve online gaming zone. Although it has lag fluctuations and Unavailabilty at times expecially after holidays, it's superior than any other system.

Some Important Notes:

------ONLY BUY NEW XBOXS! Many refurbished and used xboxs are days from becoming disfunctional and are not covered in warrenty. If you purchase a new one, try to get an extended warrenty, you will not be dissapointed.

Lastly- if you want an entertainment hub that can play dvds, and also HD dvds with purchased add on, this is for you

5 out of 5 for Xbox Elite

impatience. its the only reason I bought a 360 Elite on Ebay... If I had known getting an Elite was going to be difficult I never would've sold my 360, at least not when I did.. I would've waited and got an Elite @ BestBuy.. live and learn.

But, to those of you that are more die hard ebay than me.. be sure your seller gives you the original receipt.. that way you can get a STORE warranty (might cost ya 30-80$) but its worth it if your Xbox goes pop. You don't have to wait on Microsoft to get around to fixing yours for you and can have it back same day.

My first console received a system failure message after about a week of play. This error makes the console totally inoperable. I had the console replaced, with shipping costs at my expense. The same thing occured with the second console in about the same amount of play time: system failure (the so-called "red ring of death"). I'm very discouraged.

The 360 Elite is excellent. I bought it primarily for the HDMI to run TrueHD on my TV which is 1080p. The HD-DVD was also purchased and is fantastic as well. The black color of the 360 I didn't care much about but it does look sweet now that I have it. The 120HDD is a must have so if you don't already have a 360 this is the one to buy.

  nothing like the PS3
Review created: 01/01/09
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I have been a fan of XBOX for a while and i really like this console but when it comes to overall it has to be a PS3 that wins for these reasons

The graphics card on the PS3 is superior to the 360 there is no comparing the graphics side by side the PS3 wins

The ease of using the online interface in way more simply for the PS3 the 360 could be more confusing for unexperienced players

and the speed of download is by far quicker with the PS3

I do not dislike the 360 i think it is a great system but if I was going to decide between a 360 or a PS3 i would deffently have to chose the PS3 anyday with just a little more money you can get a far superior system.

just my thoughts on the console.
