Microsoft Train Simulator (PC Games, 2001)

I bought this simulator for my grandson who loves anything about trains. I like this simulator because it has a simplified mode that allows a 6 year old, that is computer savey, to control the trains. The controls are by default realistic and there is a learning curve in the default mode.

I like the different train routes available as well as the choice between electric, diesel and steam locomotives and cars. The realism extends to the physical laws the train has to overcome such as the number of cars and the steepness of the grades and the time it takes to speed up and slow down due to the variable power of the locomotives and the weight of the train.

One con is the lack of different viewpoints available for viewing the traim; there are several but it would be much better if there were more. Another con is in some of the diesel locomotives - to be realistic, the locomotive cabs and exteriors are dirty and rough looking but becomes a little tiresome to look at. It would be nice to have pristine versions of these locomotives.

This is a great game for "train-ers". Good Graphics and options available. My 8 year old can enjoy it as well.

I had purchased an add on and didn't know it untill I got it home and read about it, So I had to find the main program to play the add on. And the main program is very nice, and I enjoy very much.

My eight year old son is a train fanatic! He easily masters any computer game/software that is put in front of him. This is a challenge for him and makes him think; take his time and most of all READ!

If you love trains you'll love this game as an ex-railroader I find this very realistic and enjoyable. It give you the chance to try your railroading skills. Graphics are good, sound is excellent and train movement is realistic for a PC game.

my favorite is the flying scotsman,very realistic control reactions and fuel consumption data to control inputs are interesting

I already have flight Sim 2004 and the new 2006 and enjoy them very much. Because of the lack of proper space never did have the train layout I would have liked so I bought the train sim. Since installing it I have purchased all the fantastic addons by Maple Leaf Tracks, the ones available through the Canadian Pacific site and several others. It is a very realistic program as to operating different types of trains. I am completely satisfied. Recently I purchased a ship simulator. The major benifit I see with these simulators is what I have learned about the geography of the world and now when I see a large aircraft, a container ship or a long train I realize what is involved in moving them around and appreciate the skill required. Also, my purchase of the train sim was a great eBay experience thanks to a great seller.

If you like trains you may want to try MS Train Simulator. The program puts you in the cabs of different locomotives and coaches you to operate the train by adhering to speed limits and other "rules of the road". Other parts of the program test your ability to retrieve and set out freight cars while observing a timetable.

Also, many add-on features, routes, and locomotives are available as downloads from various sites, so you can expand the number of routes and try different locomotives.

This game or whatever it is suppose to be keeps my little boy very busy. He loves building and driving these trains...Keeps me out of the game rental stores more and more...Great seller....

Its pretty good, but I can't find the track editor on it, I'm not even sure that it has the track editor. The graphics of everything but the train are kind of crappy. Also your the only train that is on the track. There are no underground sub-way tracks. It doesn't have the japaniese bullet train, and the controls are kind of glitchy. I think you should wait until the new one comes out next year, instead of buying this one.

Purchase the train simulator by microsoft and recieved the item in a week after purchase. It a fun game and I recommond the game to anyone who like trains.

This is a great Simulator. It is 7 years old but runs very smooth with windows XP. I can`t wait for MSTS 2 next year. Download "the fix" for this game before you ever play it. Some add-ons may be a problem. But overall it is a great game for it`s age.
