Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Sega Genesis, 1990)

I am pretty picky about what video games I decide to play. There are games I initially scoffed at and vowed to never play. But, because of a friend who was more of an equal opportunity player, I would have a chance to play the game without actually investing in it. Surprisingly, many of these encounters changed my view towards the game and I would actually find myself developing a fondness for it. Moonwalker is a text book example of that.

The idea of Micheal Jackson as the protagonist based on the premise of his Moonwalker movie/video is just as strange or if not stranger today than it was in the early 90s. My first reaction when I played Moonwalker was to laugh incessantly. After my gutbusting laughter subsided, I was surprised to see that there was actually a game to be played. The synthesized version of "Smooth Criminal" was what started to win me over.

The graphics are of average Genesis grade. Nothing great or noteworthy except the animation of MJ doing his jive walk and dance moves. Sound is the main showcase here. The faithful renditions of Jackson's songs are done well. Jackson's catchphrases (if you can call them that since they are mostly howls and oohs) add to the character, but I found that they provided more comic relief than anything else. Usually a game as dressed up as Moonwalker skimps on substance for style. The controls are simple and easy to pick up. Moonwalker also provides enough challenge to keep most players playing. Don't expect to pick this game up and think it will be a breeze.

I am glad I was able to get the chance to play Moonwalker and see past any prejudice I had against it. Moonwalker has always had a novelty quality to it, but also had a solid game to back it up. That doesn't happen often, but it is nice when it does.

Playing a this game is tons of fun. Fight off gansters, street thugs, zombies, and futuristic fighters as you make your way through 5 action packed levels. The object of this game is to rescue the children who have been kidnapped by Mister Big and his goons. Excellent game, very playable - even by todays standards!

I love the whole style of the game going with the Michael theme and some of his greatest hits. This was a breakthrough game at the time it was made, and still is today. Michael is the KING of Pop!

I bought this game for a friend who doesn't have an eBay account. Had I a Genesis, I'd buy this game myself, because it was awesome classic. I played this game at the arcade at our municipal pool when I was a wee lad. MJ kicked thug ass...and when he moonwalked, things got pwned!

I bought the moonwalker game as a Michael Jackson collector. Even if you are not an MJ collector or fan, but you like the sega games, this is a great game to buy.

It's just as fun as I remember. I've been after this game for a good 20 years or so, and then the guy had to go and pass away, so I figured I would NEVER get a copy.

All I have to say is you "kill" your enemies with stardust and synchronized dancing!!! What is not to love about that!!!??? I love this freaking game!!!

Its a really fun game with or with out Micheal Jackson, but having his songs and dance moves through out the game made it very nice. The graphics for this game being one of sega genius first games are amazing a lot better then some of their latter games!!

I like honesty. Game was exactly how seller described it. Got it home fast. Remarkable game, sorry about Michael Jackson, he's in a better place.

This is a great game to own for any sega genesis collector. The game play is good but what makes the game is the music! The hilarious sound effects help out even more. This game is becoming more rare by the minute. get it while its hot!
