Of Mice and Men (DVD, 2001)

I am unsure about any earlier versions, but this version follows very closely along with the book. This was the first time that I ever remember seeing Gary Sinise and I knew that he would be one to watch. John Malkovich did an outstanding job, as usual. I think John Steinbeck would really be pleased with how well his words were put to screen.

I read the book in grade school, saw the 1939 version and now own the Malkovich/Sinese movie. It's a classic, great story of the depression era. A must see! You won't be disappointed. Five Stars!

To fully understand most movies that are based upon a book it is a good idea to read the book first, but in most cases that leads to a grave disappoinment as a film can never capture the contents in the same way a book does. However good a film it will always have to portrait things differently than a book simply because it is a different type of media. Not so with "Of Mice and Men". There are of course details which have been changed as the beginning scene for example, but that does not significantly change the storyline or the meaning that was intended by John Steinbeck. This movie is a perfect adaptation to the novel and captures all important motives. Important facts of the novel are brilliantly set into motion while the contents is hardly changed. This is walking a thin line for every filmmaker and in this case it is absolutely worthwhile. This movie is a complete succes when it comes to bringin a great classic onto the screen with wit and adherence to the storyline.

I have always loved this movie, the actors are great, the movie is very well done, it makes me laugh and choked me up, its full of emotion, and simply a great movie worth owning, also my son has been doing impressions of Lenny, which is my sons name and mine, so its special to us.

The reason i bought this dvd is because as a child my three sisters and i would watch it partially because we had a mentally challenged aunt. MY oldest sister always took the ending of the movie the hardest which she was teased mercilessy for by my parents, my dad mostly. She and my father have since passed on andi thought buying it would bring back some memories and it did. :) thanks for that christi

this is a must have movie for anyone's collection. i cried when they shot that old man's dog and at the end. it also made me laugh alot.

Reminds me of a time that I grew up in when people had substance and value which is absent in todays society.

I was very suprised to see that this movie was just as good as the book. If you hsven't read the book don't feel that you can't see this movie. I usually am not into these kinds of mopvies but iI must say that I am impressed!!!
