This was my favorite book as a child/teenager. George and Lenny are the main two characters and they have a very strong relationship despite their unusual differnces. Lenny is mentally handicapped and George is like a brother to him. They live a very hard life travelling around and eventually Lenny ends up killing a girl on accident. Very tragic how it ends but I don't want to spoil it. I had the opportunity to act this book out in a college theatre class and I portrayed Lenny. It was a very moving experience because the character is so loving. John Steinbeck is a genius and one of my favorite authors. - Gene

If you're a boozer like Steinbeck was you might enjoy Cannery Row because all the story revolves around is drinking. I guess he must have been on one of his binges when he wrote this. His "Of Mice and Men" was probably written while he was fairly sober and of course his "Grapes of Wrath" is his masterpiece and rightly so as it is a very authentic story about the depression and the dustbowl of the earely thirties in Oklahoma.
This review is for "Cannery Row" only.
