Description
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a story-driven adventure game, with seasoned hero Solid Snake drafted for one final mission. Set across stages including the Middle East and South America, the now aged Snake has been asked to assassinate his old adversary, Liquid Ocelot. To do this, however, he must make his way through a series of battlefields, using his legendary stealth abilities and all-new OctoCamo suit to avoid detection and to reach his target. With series favorites such as Meryl Silverburgh, Raiden, Hal 'Otacon' Emmerich, Eva and Roy Campbell returning, and with all new gameplay features including a remote-controlled Metal Gear Mk. II and enhanced CQC (Close Quarters Combat) system, Metal Gear Solid 4 rounds out the Metal Gear saga with a fittingly cinematic and gripping final outing.

Special Features
  • MGS4 pushes the power of the PlayStation 3 to its limits with cutting edge graphics and surround sound. It also aims to be the hallmark title for the new DualShock 3 controller.
  • Command Snake in his final mission which spans the entire globe and his quest to foil the plans of Liquid Ocelot and his massive army of PMCs.
  • Snake can directly aid local militia who engage invading PMCs soldiers, or encourage more fighting to slip past undetected amidst the commotion.
  • Unlock custom weapons and modifications as you trade weapons with your black market weapons dealer, Drebin.
  • Metal Gear Mk. II, the ultimate reconnaissance tool, Solid Eye, which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings, and the OctoCamo suit which allows Snake to blend into his environment and hide his presence.
  • Users can choose a variety of camera angles to use to match their game play style.

Top notch stealth action with an unmatched plot

It's been a story nearly twenty years in the making, and now it is coming to a close.
The Metal Gear Solid franchise has been amongst the most powerful franchises in the industry especially since the release of the playstation one game Metal Gear Solid, unofficially subtitled "Twin Snakes."
Many people were worried about the amount of issues this game had to cover in order to satisfy true fans of the series, but take it from a true fan of the series: producer Hideo Kojima and his crew deliver.
Chocked full of nostalgia, plot twists, tied ends, and more, this game is worth playing for the story alone.
For those who have never played a Metal Gear Solid game, it would be this reviewer's recommendation to approach it with caution. For a popular title the series is considered more "hardcore" than many other popular games, and the steep learning curve may turn off some players. Metal Gear Solid 4, however, does a great job of cleaning up the control system to allow for easier, more fluid play. In addition, the game can be played a variety of ways depending on how stealthy or run-and-gun the player wants to be.
The gameplay is simply fantastic, taking the usual quiet, undisturbed environments of the Metal Gear series and adding in frantic battlefields through which the player can sneak through unnoticed, or help out either faction. There is something visceral and extremely satisfying about making it around a battlefield while bullets whiz overhead without being noticed by any of the soldiers on either side.
Before you take into account my rating and review, it is ESSENTIAL that you know that there are tons of cinematics in this game, in other words videos which the player watches in between action sequences. Several of these scenes last over a half an hour, and without timing each individual scene I know of one for sure which goes over an hour.
For players who do not have the time to invest more than an hour or two per gameplay session, this really is not the game for you; which is a shame.
If skeptical, give the game a rent, but be patient with its challenging controls and unforgiving, yet satisfying action.
All in all this is a spectacular game with superb production values, blurring the lines between gaming, movies, and literature. An extremely deep story with biblical, political, and philosophical references, there is little this game doesn't have.

One thing you should know about this game is that for the PS3 it is a solid game. It is not the best game on the system but it is a very good game in the end. The number one game on the system is Uncharted. Does the game compete with what is on the xbox 360? Is it a reason to buy a PS3 instead of an xbox 360? The answer is absolutely NOT. If you are considering buying a PS3 just to play this game you should save your money. Its just ONE game and its not even the best game on the system. Save your money buy a 360 you'll enjoy games more because they look better and run better on the 360. Don't take that as that I hate my PS3 because I don't. But take it from someone who owns both systems and works for a video game store. The 360 is by far a better value for your money. MGS4 is a solid game but that is it. Its not even one of the top 100 of all time. Good luck if you choose to buy the system for this game because you will be let down in the end. If you already own a PS3 then yes this game should be part of your line up.
