Album Notes Cowboy Mouth: John Thomas Griffith (guitar, vocals, piano, Hammond B-3 organ, keyboards, mandolin, dobro, pedal steel); Paul Sanchez (guitar, vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar); Rob Savoy (bass, vocals); Fred LeBlanc (drums, vocals, percussion, guitar). Recorded at Dockside Recording Studios, Maurice, Louisiana in April, 1998. MERCYLAND is a slice of pure Americana; ringing guitars, steady 4/4 rhythms, a somewhat rootsy sensibility and plenty of drive. Though they display more straight-ahead rock & roll drive, Cowboy Mouth come off like a distant cousin of the late, lamented Gin Blossoms, mining good, clean pop-rock for all it's worth. On MERCY LAND, it turns out to be worth quite a bit. From the frenetic, insanely catchy opener "Why Ya Wanna Do Me?" to the Tom Petty-ish riff-rock romanticism of "Turn Me On" Cowboy Mouth impresses with its songwriting acumen, indefatigable spirit and flawless roots-rock chops. A strong candidate for long drives or trips to the beach.
