What's a guy to do? You drop all your ex-Communist friends and anti-Nazi lovers to continue acting in Nazi Germany. You luck out and become a huge success, even becoming the head of the State Theatre. Somehow even all this success still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. You can't live with yourself for having given up all the people and ideas that were once so important to you. You are Hendrik Hofgen!
This is the book that was later filmed as a movie starring Klaus Maria Brandauer. I loved the movie, and the book was even better. I think you will really enjoy this work.
