Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus by John Gray (1992, Hardcover)

This book changed my life and helped my marriage tremendously. John Gray did an excellent job of explaining the differences of a man and woman's reference point and how we understand and perceive situations from a different view point. Often we can feel like we are speaking different languages. By coming to a new understanding of how men filter life's information - I was able to communicate with my husband in a new style and was much more effective in letting him know what I needed from him and how I could better help him and meet his needs in our marriage as well.

I finally got to try to read this book when my husband & I got married & I found it in his stuff. I can't believe the hype that was created by this text whewn it first came out.
I found the writing to be redundant. A lot of words to communicate very little.
Boring read.

Pop psychology at its worst. 14 years after publication and who is better for having read this book? Not me. I just learned a new set of labels and did not come away with a genuine understanding that helps me on a day - to -day basis.

My husband and I both read this book about 2 1/2 years into our marriage. We identified with the portrayal of our gender which allowed us to understand the reasoning process of the other. In some cases the terminology helped us to facilitate communication where we might otherwise have ended up arguing. We are now 11 years into our marriage and don't "need" this book, but we still sometimes use the phrases coined here because they fit so well.

Boring. I don't know. Sometimes I think too much can be read into human behavior. I also resent the way women are presented here. I didn't relate at all.

This is an amazing book that provides a very accurate and straight forward description about the difference in the ways that men and communicate and how it can impact your relationship in both negative and positive ways. John Gray provides very simple suggestions for increasing your understanding, compassion and willingness to look at your spouse through each others point of view.

I am in the mental health business and recommended this book to many of the couples that I meet. Many of my patient's have reported finding this book helpful in the overall quality of their marital communication and relationship.

I decided to buy this book b/c I was having trouble understanding where men and sometimes women came from. This book focuses on relationships but it also helps in the everyday world relationships, for example, business. Overall, this buy was a steal, it's a great book to pick and put down throughout your weekend.

If you have ever talked to anyone and walked away from the conversation thinking "what did he/she just say" or (more importantly) "what did he/she mean," then this book is very useful. He states many key words and phrases and what they generally mean when spoken in context. He delves into the differences about how women communicate, how men communicate, and how both can make communications between the genders difficult unless one knows what to listen for. I highly recommend this book for anyone who not only wants to learn to communicate more efficiently, but also for those who want to overcome the barrier between men and women. Some of the material can be very difficult to absorb and may require changing very old habits, but the payoff is worth it!

There are too many awesome tips in this book to write here, but I will give you a few.

Make sure your other half reads the book also.

Men - Let your spouse know about your Cave - and all you have to do is say "I'm in my cave" and they leave you alone - amazing.

The point system:

Men - you get points just for asking if they need help - even if they say no, they don't. I use this one all the time and it keeps me out of the doghouse for sure.

I could go on and on about all the great tips I got from this book....I know it seems like a womans book, but guys you have got to read it - I promise it will be worth your time.

I did find the differences between the sexes fascinating! The CATCH is this. If one of the people involved do not want to follow this book, then the other person is out of luck!! It takes two to tangle.

This could save any relationship. I never knew how diffrent men and women are. This book is the best guide to saving or even making your relationship better. I think personally anyone in a relationship should read this book, it could prevent alot of hurt feelings.

This book brings everything about relationships that we generally overlook and brings them into perspective. Any reading that helps men and women understand one another better is good for me.

Years ago when this book first came out my significant other and I invested in them. We were both amazed at how John Gray was able to open our eyes to each others issues, taught us to read each other the right way. Both of us said many times that "Men Are From Mars & Women Are From Venus" is one of the best books out there for couples to learn how to "read" each other and communicate. That's why I was so happy to be able to purchase another one for my son and his new wife. I hope that it will offer them good advice too.

a must for anyone whom is serious about understanding the oppostie sex.I was told by many that this book was good. all of those people have succesful relationships. I highly reccomend this book.

I read it years ago, & this time I bought it as a gift, because it is a great bool for helping men & women understand each other, especialy the differences in the way they think & react to the same situations.

I bought this for my niece to read as she is in a relationship and doesn't understand why men do or act. I read the book a few years ago and it really made me realize the differences between men & women and how they handle cituations.

I would recomend this book to any couple who is having a hard time understanding how their partner communicates. It has been helpful in creating a more open communication between my partner and I.

I had heard that reading this book would make me a more understanding man because it would let appreciate and accept the differences between Men and Women ... They were right !! I now can adjust my expectations and become a better person by it !! I think this Book should be a required reading book in all High Schools to make us aware of the fact that what attracts us to each other is really the differences in each other , so don't try to change your woman into a man ... and vice versa .....

I thank Dr. John Gray for writing this very informative Book , I wish someone had written it 30 years earlier and I was lucky enough to have found and read it , and that the woman I love read it too !!

P.S. I should mention that I have read other books on improving relationships between men and women but , they all just blame the opposite sex for any problems ... this book gives you a road map to make both sides more appriciative and have a much better understanding by accepting each of us as we are !! Its like the old Carpenters always say ... don't sand the wood against its grain or you just flair up the wood ))

I bought the book because I have heard other people talk about. and it does seem to be a very good book for people who may be having conflict in their realationship. the book has alot of great ways to understanding the opposite sex. I would recomend this book if you like reading self help books or if your just haveing a hard time understanding why the person in your life maybe acting the way they do.
