Memory Almost Full by Paul McCartney (CD, Jun-2007, Hear Music Starbucks)

I am an avid Beatle fan and I buy every McCartney album due to his originality, however I think he has been depending too much on the strength of his band than his writing talents in the last few years. Yes, there are some clever melodys, a few good word plays, but nothing like his early works. I have listened to the album about 10 times now and some of the songs will play in your head for a while but the lyrical craftsmenship that makes McCartney, Mccartney is just not there. I think he's gotten lazy and hopes the lyrics will just come to him fast rather than working hard to find the right subject and lyrics for a really good song. John Lennon and Linda's death was the worst thing that could have happened to Paul. John gave Paul competition. Someone to beat and Linda gave him some undeniably great love songs, ie Maybe I'm Amazed, My Love. Paul still has the voice and I believe the talent for greatness he just needs to apply himself again. Find a cause and write about it. I think Band on the Run was the last great McCartney album. Every song on the album was stunning; just like a Beatle album, absolutely awesome. I'm not saying that there have not been some great songs on his later albums but they are far and few between.
