Revisionist Jazz History strikes again....Bleauh!!!!!!
The original 2 LP set is excellent, but RCA's unremastered (or worse-poorly remastered-take your pick)single CD edition is a poor shadow of the original.
First and foremost, all the (then) contemporary material has been removed. These tracks include VERY good pieces like Lyle May's arrangement of "Penny Arcade", Chuck Mangione's "She's Gone", and Freddie Hubbard's, "Crisis" and Alan Broadbent's "Fanfare for the Common Man".
The LP set has better dynamics. (even taking into account RCA's late '70's flippy floppy late dog/Dynaflex standards.)
Somebody (Hey, Mosaic! Wake up!) needs to remaster it and release the entire ninety-one plus minute concert.
