Album Notes
Dead Can Dance: Brendan Perry (vocals, bass guitar); Lisa Gerrard (vocals).
Almost a decade after disbanding, Dead Can Dance reunited for a series of 2005 live dates, and this single-disc retrospective coincided with that much-heralded tour. Renowned for combining gothic atmospherics with a wide cross section of folk and world music sounds, the revered UK act, consisting of multi-instrumentalists Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, amassed an incredibly devoted following in the 1980s and '90s. This 15-track collection is an excellent introduction to the group's consistently inventive work during that key period. With the contrast of Perry's deep, resolute baritone and Gerrard's ethereal, almost classical singing on display throughout, songs range from the ominous, majestic "Enigma of the Absolute" and the dirge-like, Middle Eastern-inflected "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove," to the towering "American Dreaming." Although Dead Can Dance diehards are best suited by the 1981-1998 box set, MEMENTO is an ideal primer for the curious listener.

Editorial Reviews
MEMENTO provides a concise retrospective of their exotic delights....Perry still sounds like he's channeling Jim Morrison...
