Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by Smashing Pumpkins (CD, Oct-1995, 2 Discs, Virgin Records USA)

This CD stands as one of my all time favorite CDs. Of the 2 disc set, there are only maybe one or two songs that I am not fond of. All the rest i'm crazy about. I recommend this for anyone with a sophisticated taste in good quality music.

Best double album of all time. The pumpkins best album every song is a jem! Released when the pumpkins were "unable to do any better than their sophmore album" they blew the music world out of the water, includes best rock grammy song of 1996 "bullet with butterfly wings"

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is by far the Smashing Pumpkins best (and possibly last good) album. If you're a fan of Gish and Siamese Dream, then you'll love this album. If you're a fan of Adore or anything since then by the Pumpkins, Mellon Collie may not appeal to you. One of the most appealing aspects about this album to me is the fact that it is a double-CD album with nearly all good songs.

In short: buy this album if you're an early Pumpkins fan!

I love Smashing Pumpkins. I have listened to them since I was in 9th grade. I decided to buy this CD set because I love the song Tonight. It makes me happy. I had the music on tapes and they needed to be replaced. The music of Smashing Pumpkins has so so much energy in it that it makes me feel empowered.

The best album by the group. From the moment i saw the 'Tonight, tonight' MTV during the 90's, I was convinced this is a must buy album. All great tracks till the last song. In an era where everyone wanted to be Pearl Jam or Metallica, Billy's SP really save me from dropping rock genre out of my list. Btw, anyone got the 'Stigmata' soundtrack?

A lot of critics found this album to be pretentious, over the top, self indulgent, and "too artsy". I found it to be a brilliant masterpiece. Maybe I'm a sucker or maybe I just have an ear for good tunes. Whatever the case may be, I love this album and consider it to be my favorite work by this incredible band. From the hard rocking Bullet With Butterfly Wings (my favorite pumpkins song) to the classic romantic Tonight Tonight to the nostalgic 1979, Corgan captures each mood flawlessly. 5 Huge Stars.

like most double lps/cds with the exception of Layla/Exile on main street, this could be boiled down to one great cd. it's stylisticly all over the map, a good thing when it works. HERE IT WORKS MAINLY ON THE HARD ROCKERS. The real irony is that the related singles contain material that is superior to anything on Mellon Collie, particularly the 33 which has 'Transformer', one of the best songs the Smashing Pumpkins ever recorded, and a coll version of 'My Blue Heaven'.

The reason i give this an excellent rating- Bullet with the Butterfly wings. That song alone is worth the cd set. Then you got the radio classics like Tonight,tonight, 1979, ZERO.. and as for the rest- there good. Givin time to listen to, these will grow on you and you will LOVE them.. Many peeps have this sittin in there cd case not gettin the respect it deserves. Sad and sadness go together.. Someday your shi* will hit the fan and this will cheer you up. Best played sittin in the car in a rainy parking lot with a doobie and a hot girlfriend.. i am VERY lucky and know it. Best nights ever. Thanks Lisa.

I like this 2-cd set. I bought one when it first came out and lost it. While I had it I listened to it a lot and the songs are great. Most of them I remember. I like this band and was sorry to see them turn out as they did. If you like this band then this is a good choice.

Very pleased all around! The CD arrived in the exact condition that it was described. No scratches on disks, full art work and a small scratch on the disk case. It plays wonderfuly and was shipped relatively quickly.

It's surprising how much variety is in this set! It all generally falls under that ever-popular '90s genre "alternative." It speaks volumes about so many different subjects. Okay, no need to stall; get this album. It's essential. "...Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage..."

This was one of their best albums. Over the years I have bought 5 sets of the same title. I was I could have caught them in a concert. :(

One of many great records the Pumpkins have put out. There is'nt much to dislike about about this. I could listen to this from start to finish. Every song is great!
