Cute look hides an old school beast of a game

This is definitely one of the best if not must buys for the PSP. The gameplay is what was experienced since 1987. A Challenging and overall fun game on the go. With the challenge mode, hidden bosses, and downloaded & create a stage features you have more than enough replay value and longevity. If you are a fan or like to know why Mega Man is so popular this is the gam you need to play.

Mega Man Powered Up really well
Review created: 08/05/09

Mega Man Powered Up for PSP is a very strange game that for the most part, probably won't appeal to anyone except those who are fans of previous Mega Man games.

To be short, it's an enhanced remake of the original NES Mega Man/Rockman 1, but with updated graphics, newly written story, and many playable characters such as the all the original Robot Masters.

The game also allows you to create your own stages and send them online to others, and download special content such as characters like Roll, Protoman and many special costumes for Roll.

The controls can get some getting used to in comparison to other Mega Man games and especially Maverick Hunter X (which came out the same time as Powered Up). They feel a bit slippery and loose when trying to move around, and the jumping seems a bit too low for a few of the platforms to reach, making the difficulty a bit higher than what it should be.

Also, some Robot Masters aren't tuned up as good as they should, and have a hard time defeating some of the other bosses and stages because of this.

All in all Mega Man Powered up is a really great game for those who are fans of the franchise or want something cute and entertaining for their PSP.

Don't let the cute designs fool you....
Review created: 07/24/09

The original Mega Man was a revolution in game design. It's too bad it took so long for Capcom to remake that revolutionary game into something I dare say is... better? In many ways, yes, it is better than the original Mega Man. There's a TON more replay value, for example you can play as the boss characters, there are challenge stages, you can choose the difficulty, and best of all... the graphical and musical upgrades make this a Megaman that is a must-have! Yes, it's cutesy, but that's also part of the charm that makes this game so fun! I highly recommend it because it can be for beginners and experts alike.

  a psp hit!

Mega Man Powered Up is an instant classic. It has a fun plot to it and the character animations are great. It is a remake of the original Mega Man for the NES with 2 versions. The old version to stay true to older players of the game and the new version, complete with 2 new unlockable playable bosses, Oilman and Timeman. With 3 different difficulty settings for each stage, it can really be a challenge. All the stages can be played with any boss, making it a whole different obstacle, and with a boss character you can even fight Mega Man?. Game is fun for all ages, a great chance to play a game you may have played 20 years ago in a new light, or maybe one you have never had the chance.

Excellent game for its features and the new look on an old classic. However the new character boss Oilman is so blatantly racist it makes me sick to my stomach.

great, but be prepared for what's asked of you...
Review created: 10/29/08

the original mega man game was hard. there's only one portion of it, the final areas, that pose any serious threat aside from a few simple mistakes that you're bound to make a million of throughout the course of the game. keep in mind of this game: easy is easy, normal is modest, but sometimes frustrating, and hard is enough to put a gamer down for a while. even in normal, wily himself can cause some discomfort with yourself until you (or if you) finally beat him to grand fanfare. the extra characters have a similar bout, but each have their own trouble spots as well. even roll, who has 12 different variations (costumes) can blast through the game in easy, but frankly, even i'm stuck at the robot masters remix. also, there are eight robot masters this time around, time man and oil man have been made for the cast, but thankfully, neither are as fierce a threat as they could have been.
the classic style mode, which is the classic game in a full screen aspect ratio, is an exact stage recreation. it is not, however, a wholly accurate enemy/obstacle recreation as the enemies and traps still follow the 'powered up' rule set. shots do not go through walls, be yhey enemy or your own, and some robots have been made friendlier for the remake, so it feels like an altogether more relaxed mega man game experience. that said, if you've played the NES classic anytime soon, you'll feel a little better as you stroll through this iteration. wily's final stage is still very much a hassle in this mode and there is no 'select glitch', so you're on your own for real.
the biggest draw for this game is the level creator and it is a blast. you have a huge area to work with, dozens of packs of enemies, stage tiles, and gimmicks all around. after you download everything from the online site (only through your PSP in the construction mode), you'll have tons of different stage possibilities (and you can pick up some characters along the way...). it's the biggest draw, especially since you can upload them or download others through the network. and, for those worried about size limitation, you have PLENTY of room to work with and solid blocks cost nothing when you place them.
the whole package is undoubtedly fun, just as long as you can bear with the hard times and take your hits with stride. the editor alone makes the purchase worthwhile and has the potential to drain many an hour of your life just getting that one stage just right. go ahead. have fun. a rare title with lots of options.

  Great game with cool features
Review created: 07/16/08
by:

This is a great game that allows the player to be free, especially with the level creator. It lets you come up with almost anything, and you can download other people's as well. The levels are fun and exciting with a few different difficulties so those up for a challenge can enjoy... well, being challenged. For those who like it easy, it is pretty straight forward. There is a challenge mode for all of the bosses you beat. Some are time constrainted and others have you reach the goal in time. Overall, it is a very good game!

  Mega Man Powered Up
Review created: 02/17/08

Wow, I love this, i had the original megaman (rockman) games on the NES when I was a kid and I can relive all those classic moments with megaman powered up, all original characters and two new now with dialogue and excellent sound effects.

Classic levels available but these are with the new graphics in the old lay out so mega is very small and sound effects reverted to NES sound.

A well rounded game that will keep giving and giving and levels have items to collect to build you own levels.

I recommend this to any megaman X fans also.

This is a great game. The levels are set up just like the original Megaman, but everything have been chibi-fied. It's so cute~ I love it. Also, its very fun to play as the bosses and use special powers to get into various places.

  Great PSP Game of 2006
Review created: 01/01/08

I love this game, simply because its a part of a history of my childhood from 1987, when I was ten years old, I enjoyed playing Mega Man 1 for the NES and now thanks to Sony, I can re-live the yesteryear of my expirence in playing this game, I hope that sony will remaster the sequels and put out other great classics from the late 80's & early 90's.

The game is essentially a remake of the original Mega Man. The graphics are amazing and the new bosses are cool. The controls are simple and the game is easy to pick up and play and have fun. I would recommend the game to anyone who was a fan of the MegaMan series for Nintendo.

  Mega Man Comes on Strong
Review created: 03/04/07
by:

My son loves this game. It has great enhanced graphics and the controls for the character are very well executed. He has been a lover of all Mega Man from the beginning. I find that though the game has its overcoming of enemies; it is not the violent, bloody screen play that you get with say- Halo. I let him get a bit of other games, but if you have to have a bit overcoming your enemy-et it be a Mega Man.

This game is awesome!!! You play an old school classic with terrific graphics and game play. Even though the rating is E, the game play of the game is really not that easy but it's playable. I think anyone would enjoy a great classic on the PSP.

  Mega-Upgrade
Review created: 10/25/06
by:

Its mega man one, but powered up. Just like the title says. Graphics are kick ass, and the game play is smooth. Like ALL mega man games, you play the levels, beat bosses, get their abilities then have to beat all the bosses again at the end of the game. Kinda sucks.
But the ability to play as other bosses is a great option, and being able to post your own levels, and download others is great.
The game is a great portable game, play a level or so then pause till next time.
Game is worth it.

Still prefer the originals - however...
Review created: 10/10/06

...this is a fun game. The graphics took a bit of getting used to; I don't really understand the drive to update old platformers with semi-3D graphics (see also the new Ghosts & Goblins remake for PSP).

However, the PSP suffers from a lack of good games, especially platformers - so Mega Man Powered Up is a welcome addition! It's quite difficult, but if you enjoyed the old NES games you should really expect that :-) The sound effects are a little on the irritating side (very tired of hearing Mega Man grunt every time he jumps), but the gameplay is still solid.

That said - I do with that the PSP would follow the example set by Nintendo. The platform games and remakes for the DS have been truly excellent - and the new Mega Man ZX blows this one out of the water...
