Pros
+ Includes Mega Man 1-8 plus two bonus games.
+ Fun flashback to Capcom's golden age.

Cons
- Reminds me how frustratingly hard these games are.
- Some of the earlier games were very similiar as far as gameplay goes.

Comments
This is a great compilation disc. It explores all of the Mega Man classic series. Any fan should love a chance to own all of these games on one system.

Verdict
Must have title for any Mega Man fan. Others may want to rent before buying.

  Mega Man Still Rocks

This game reminds me of why I had so much fun playing video games to begin with. It instills in you a sense of nostalgia. As well it has some cool features like it saves your progress after each level. So you don't have to beat each robot master over and over again like in the original games. Also it has two never before released in the US titles on it. Overall I give it a rating of 4/5.

8 bit Blast from the Past!
Review created: 09/22/09

In the video game world we know there are numerous legends. Video game characters like Mario and Sonic, who seem to have been around forever. Well now you have the opportunity to trace back the origin of Mega Man. The game allows you to play through games part 1 through 8 from the start and includes 2 more games to unlock ( nothing to amazing but interesting titles that flew under most peoples radar). With the recent release of Mega Man 9 you might be curious to check out Mega Man's Climb to his iconic status in pop culture.
Now in terms of how these games scale in terms of enjoyment. Its honestly a bit difficult for some folks to see a differences in titles 1 through 6. Capcom (the game developer) has been know for designing games with the "if it ain't broke, don't fixit" mentality. Now this is a problem for some gamers who want something different after beating a game, but to me, it is simply like playing one very long game, with tons of bosses before you finally make your way to victory (and new gameplay)! The fun thing about this game is the puzzle like bosses you must face to clear each game. Once you defeat a boss you steal their weapon technology that is the weakness for another boss. Your mission is to figure out what works best on how in order to get through this game easily. Things get into high gear when you play part 6 and 7, and it becomes easily to see why Mega Man has been around for so long.
These games have been know for their difficultly, so for those more casual gamers who would rather play a beat something in a sitting, Capcom has added an easy mode for everyone. There is also a navigation mode to make sure you do not get lost along your way. It becomes an easy play for child or adult, but I recommend trying these games in their original difficulty. It can be extremely tough and frustrating but....thats old school gaming, two buttons and a huge headache.
To relieve some pain there is plenty of extra interviews and photo galleries and some other nice unlockables for you to uncover along your trip down nostalgia road. For the price of admission you get on very sweet ride. Will games that have a high replay value and secrets to uncover, you will have something to ring you back to the 8 bit greatness that is Mega Man.
This collection goes for a pretty cheap price and can be picked up on the Gamecube (which plays on Wii) the Playstation 2 (which plays on some PS3) and Xbox (which plays on the 360). So pretty much anyone can find a way to play this. Not to mention it will be much easier the scouring for these games in their original release format. Now keep in mind that this is not the only reason why Mega Man has such a following. The Mega Man X collection is another set of games that included a different series of classic games from the 16 bit era and onward. This X collection is a great buy as well and should be picked up by anyone who is looking for another great set of games bundled at a low price with the ability to keep you glued to your console for hours. Mega Man will not disappoint with these 2 great collections!

  Super game, kid review
Review created: 09/07/09

First of all, I have to say right now that you will not be dissapointed. For the price of 1 gamecube game, you get 6 nes games 1 snes game and one ps1 game. If you bought some, not all, of the actuale games it would cost more. The controles are odd as (B) jumps and (A) shoots, but other that that the controles are good. The games on this collection are very hard and can be frustrating at times. If you like megaman, and you have money, I beg you to buy this game. As a motivatore, there are tons of bonus stuff includeing 2 arcade games that were only released in japan. Buy this game.

Not like when you were a kid

When I was growing up in the 1980's certain games were my absolute favorite, to me and many of my friends. Now that I am in my 30's I try to recapture that childhood feeling and I have been buying many titles that I use to play back then. Many are great, like Zelda, Metroid, Metal Gear. But some games just aren't that great as I got older, like Mega-Man. Sure when I was young I spent many hours playing this game, but I have just recently purchased this and it sucks. Flat-out terrible. I tried to give it a chance but I can't seem to understand why I spent so much time playing this game. Don't waste your time on this game. Some things should have stayed in the 80's. Like Mega-man, more like mega-lame.

  Worth buying
Review created: 12/30/08

I didn't catch Mega Man the first time around, so I don't know how accurate of a port it is. This game brings back all the memories of the Nintendo era. Great platforming action with amazing level design makes this compilation worth owning. If you haven't played these games before, they are significantly different than Mario-style platformers. However, it is much more fulfilling to defeat a Mega Man level than to get the infamous "the princess is in another castle" runaround. In my humble opinion, (ratings are out of 5)

Difficulty: 3-5 ... Some parts are easy, some parts are extremely tricky.
Graphics: 2 by today's standards, superb for 8-bit era.
Sound: 4 ... Very appropriate for the levels and not horrible for synth music.
Controls: 4 ... A little loose, but plays just like an NES game.
Replay value: 5 ... For some reason, I find myself wanting to unlock everything and not cheat.
Overall: 4

Even if you haven't played these games before, you will probably enjoy them. If you get frustrated easily, you better buy some extra controllers to go with it.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection (Game Cube, Wii)

Bought the game because I liked the NES versions. It was a good deal. I didn't know I had to get the Game Cube controller since I'm using it on a Wii. The controller is $10 to $20 depending on where you get it.

Mega Man Anniversary for Game Cube
Review created: 11/09/08

I originally bought this game because I am a fan of the Blue Bomber; Mega Man. I like the fact that this collection has all of the original Mega Man titles included, as well as 2 games that were never released on a game console, only at the arcades.

A few things I didn't like about the way the games were:
1 - The MM8 movies were choppy, and scaled to the tv size causing eye sore jaggies, along with the games themselves with no way to view them in original screen size.

2 - The button configuration was backwards for the first first 6 MM games making it hard to get use to them from the original settings.

A few things I do like about the collection:
1 - All the games in one collection
2 - The interview and extra material
3 - The dedication Capcom has put into Mega Man all the years

I mostly just wanted to add this to my collection of Mega Man, so I decided to buy it. Overall it just may take some extra time to appreciate it. If you are a collector of all thing Mega Man, I suggest you give it a try. If you wish to get a collection of Mega Man games for the sole interest of playing, I suggest you get the XBox version.

Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the Game Cube
Review created: 11/05/08

If you are a diehard Rockman or Megaman fan, and you have a Gamecube, and you somehow didn't get this game, either I should smack you silly, or I'll let you do that to yourself. Repent and get one on ebay NOW.

I know, with the recent 8-bit make of Megaman 9 coming out for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 this collection is incomplete, but still, hey, it is worth getting anyhow (before all 9 games of the original series make it in one compilation for one of the future console giants). Plus, the two Megaman Power Battles (first one is really fun on the arcade) are included.

Plus, unlike the PS2 and Xbox version the Gamecube manual is in full-colour, so it'll make a good little souvenir.

Go, go, go. The original series is how Megaman began. Those born in the late 90s should take this as your Megaman history lesson, and learn to RESPECT retro video games.

You'd better, or I'll jump on your fat stomachs, each and every one of you.

  Mega Man Nostalgia
Review created: 09/07/07

I was a huge Megaman fan on the NES. I played the first 3 through to completion, but didn't really play alot of the newer ones. The Anniversary collection is a must-have for Mega Man fans. It consists of ten games(don't confuse this title with the Mega Man X collection) but like I said, I only play the first 3. The game plays well on my Nintendo Wii with the gamecube controller. I would recommend this game to original Mega Man fans, but those who haven't played will probably be disappointed unless you're looking for a side scrolling shooter with out of date graphics.

I LOVE MEGAMAN!!! This Game has almost all of them....

The staple of the megaman franchise is that you can use your opponents weapons after you defeat them. This is one of the selling points of these games.

Also, these games are FAAAAAR harder than ANYTHING that has been released on any system after the NES.

  Mega Man Anniversary ROCKS!
Review created: 07/02/06

0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This disc makes a pretty convincing argument for retiring our old Nintendo systems. Every Mega Man title ever released in the states is here on one disc. Additionally, there are two bonus games that you can unlock, as well as an interview, production art, and commercials.

What I found rather cool is that Mega Man 1 thru 6 have had their control scheme redone so as to incorporate functions used in later games, such as switching abilities with the L and R buttons. We've also been spared of the chore of writing down save codes. Every game on the disc, including the first game, have game save options. Awesome!

The only blight is that Mega Man And Bass isn't part of this collection. It's probably the only factor preventing this collection from being considered "complete". Fortunately, the game can be played on Gameboy Advance or on Gamecube, via the Gameboy Player.

Definitely buy!
