As far as a expansion pack goes this is solid.

Its the same game play as Medieval II: Total but this time they focused on regions: The Holy Lands, Americas, Baltic, and Brittania, each region contains at least 5 factions and often times more.

Probably the biggest draw much like the original game is playing a open ended campaign through historic events, for example playing as the Kingdom of Jerusalem in the The Holy Lands campaign you will could be the target of a Jihad, or manage the arrival of new Crusaders from Europe, the level of accuracy on the Campaign maps are impressive. The factions in each campaign all have some differences but often times are pretty similar also, although that is probably a given taken the condensed regional campaign maps there are still a decent amount of different units to keep you interested in playing as each, the addition of unique units also add some flavor to The Holy Lands campaign these units either have a extra hit point or have a larger number of units they can be retrained but not recruited so if you get them killed they are gone, some factions have different leadership structures such as the Baltic region where the Teutonic order doesnt have the typical family structure but rather a military merit structure.

All and all if you enjoy playing the original campaign and/or have a interest in realistic historic events from the often misrepresented Medeival period this is a worthwhile buy.

  Nice Expansion
Review created: 04/29/09

Over all, I have to give this one 4 out of 5 stars. For the price, I have to give it 5 stars. The Teutonic & Crusade games are probably the best of the four. The Britannia campaign is VERY time consuming. The America's campaign is the worst of the batch. But that's 'my' opinion.

Americas campaign is hard to play as with native Americans due to lack of cavalry, you'll be chasing guys a lot.

  Good game!

I like that it continues the combat and world map systems of the original title, but with much smaller scale world. There are really not that many changes from the first game, either.

I love the Fort system in the Britannia campaign, and the ability to form new factions in the Teutonic. I'm also happy that in the Jerusalem campaign, there are settlements that actually hurt your enemy when taken; too often in the original game, one city after another would fall with no real signs that it was damaging to the original owner of those cities.

Honestly the only thing I don't enjoy is how much micromanagement is eventually required just to play the game; but believe it or not, that doesn't stop the game from ever being fun and enjoyable to play.

Good, but needs description to be more explicit.

I liked it for the most part. It just needs to explain explicitly that it is only an expansion pack, not the actual game with the expansion pack included.

Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms-Not Too Bad
Review created: 08/07/08
by:

I love the strategy game that is Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The game is much more developed than Medieval II Total War. It allows for even more playable units. The custom battle feature allows for any person to create the fantasy battle of their dreams. You can have the Aztec empire face off against the British Colonies. Or you can have the Spanish Conquistadors face off against the Mayan Empire. Overall, this game is a worthwhile purchase.

I decided to buy it because it was the ultimate military strategy game. It's easy to play a shoot em up game, but you have to be a special type of gamer to play a strategy game like this.

One of my dislikes about this game is that it needs Medieval II Total War installed to run the game. So you need to have already purchased that game to install Kingdoms. But that is a simple 20$ fix at Wal-Mart.
