  The good old days

I never tire of hearing how movies from past decades show how innocent and kinder the world once was. Meatballs is a good example of what summer camp was like in 1979. The humor, jokes, and behavior of the cast seem incredibly wholesome compared to anything you will see in movie theaters today. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who doesn't remember the era and would like to see what life was like in the late 1970's, or to someone like myself who does remember and longs for the good old days.

  It just doesn't matter

Meatballs, a Canadian movie released in theatres in 1979, has stood the test of time. It's the ultimate summer-camp comedy, featuring Bill Murray in his first starring role as Tripper Harrison, head counsellor at cut-rate Camp North Star, located somewhere in the Great North Woods. Tripper is the kind of counsellor all summer-camp inmates would love to have. Possessed of a sardonic sense of humor and a fine sensitivity toward campers in need of guidance, Tripper is a leader who inspires by zany indirection rather than by commands. He and female head counsellor Roxanne(Kate Lynch) have their work cut out for them training the underdog North Star campers for a grueling series of competitions against wealthy rival Camp Mohawk. High point of the movie is Tripper leading the North Star campfire cheer: "It just doesn't matter! It just doesn't matter!" Highly recommended, but forget about the sequels. (Puzzle question: To what does the title of the movie refer?)

The movie is funny. It is no Wet Hot American Summer, but as far as summer camp movies go you could not ask for a better actor to star in it.

I always liked this movie since it's 1979 release; in fact, I've seen this film at my local theater. I've always wanted a copy of this film for home viewing, and I got one in VHS format. When I saw a copy in DVD format for 25 cents, I knew I got a good deal (even tho I paid $6 for shipping). Now, I get to see Bill Murray and company in a crystal clear digital format. From the heartfelt befriending of Chris Makepeace's loner camper character, to engineering the hilarious practical jokes on that poor moron of a Camp Director Morty, I can enjoy this movie over and over again on theater quality equipment. I highly recommend this film for true Bill Murray fans, or for anybody who likes a good comedy, and to root for the underdog!!!

We recorded this on our DVR and watched it almost every night. After it was accidently erased, we had to have a copy of it. I could not find it in stores and searched Ebay and won a copy. This is clean fun humor and wonderful outdoor camp fun for teens.
