I like mine. It gives me great views and is really easy to set up.
The first time I tried it I had it aligned in about 1 minute.
With the 497 controller after entering your zip code you point the telescope close to north and close to level. The controller then points to a bright star that you center in the view. It then points to another bright star that you center in the view. It is now aligned and ready to take you on the built in tours of the night sky. I saw Jupiter(with 4 moons), neptune, nebula, double stars and galaxies without ever having used a telescope before or even knowing where these things were. If I didn't know what the telescope was showing me I would press the ? button and the controller would display a detailed explanation.
The moon is alot of fun to look at too.
It came with a 9.7mm and a 25mm eyepiece that give a good range of magnification.
I sometimes notice some very slight vibration from the telescope tracking motors when I use the high magnification eyepiece. The focusing assembly seems kind of cheap but it works well. The box it came in is not suited to storing the telescope. Also with a reflecting telescope everything is upside down. This may be bothersome when viewing things other than the sky.
I have used my telescope on several nights now and look forward to using it again. This telescope has made me more interested in astronomy becouse of its ease of use and the controller is like having a built in astronomy teacher.
I got this telescope for my daughter and I promised her we'd be able to see the craters on the moon. Unfortunately for me, I did opposite what the manual suggests and I tried to use it for the first time at night...and I knew not much at all about the stars. Needless to say, the first night was not good. The next day, I aligned the red dot and played with the eyepieces until I figured out how to actually focus the scope. I agree with another reviewer - the 9mm is difficult to use, but the 25mm eyepiece is great. My second night out, we saw the craters on the moon with the 25mm eyepiece. Focusing and red dot were easy to use since we figured it out during the day. On the third night, we found Arcturus and Altira and got the GoTo AutoStar working great. We knew it was working when it centered on the brightly lit Jupiter. By the end of the week, we felt like pros and have found many more stars in the sky. I bought a Zhumel erecting eyepiece ($20) for day use (so things aren't inverted) and bought a Celestron 12.4mm eyepiece ($60). The Celestron is definitely a nicer eyepiece than the ones that come with it, but I see now why people told me it would over-drive the scope. The scope is great, but can't support the more expensive eyepieces as well as a more expensive scope probably could. Personally, I love this scope and think it's great. My daughter and I are beginners, and this has been a really great project for us. We read astronomy books together and am having a great time.
It's a good scope for the money,I thought it was the lnt model(level north technolgy) but it's not. I thought I was buying that model,I like it no matter,it;s not to heavy,has good power,the computer works great,fairly sturdy tripod.The focuser works smoothly,unfortunatly the electric focuser # 1240,is discontinued,and you can't get it.It also has the 2" adaptor for the bigger eyepieces.Overall it's pretty good,way above a basic telescope.Images are clear and sharp.For the money ,I reccomend it.
Item is great for learning to locate objects in the night sky. Keeping objects centered in telescope can be trying at times. Decided to buy product to learn where objects are located in night sky and product has done its job, highly recommended for begining astronomers.
This telescope is very user friendly and great quality for the price. It's perfect for beginners and even good for intermediates. The Autostar system is accurate, easy to align, and simple to use. It produces a really nice, sharp image and has excellent power. As an owner of this scope, I would recommend it to anybody interested in dabbling in the field of astronomy.
