I got one of these new back in the mid 90’s and it still works like new. The signal quality is as good as you can expect from a CB. I used this radio in the woods for a couple of summers when I was working at a camp and it outperformed some of the base station CBs that the camp had (despite the fact that I was using a rubber duck antenna). This radio is durable enough to withstand daily use in the outdoors.
Using 10 AA NiCd rechargeable batteries the charge will last for about 7 hours with moderate use. I have not tried it with other types of batteries. Some of the modern rechargeable batteries are much better than NiCd’s, and I suspect that they would provide longer life.
This radio can also be powered by 12V DC. I have powered it from the cigarette lighter in my car so that I could listen to the truckers while I was driving on the highway. I have also had mine powered up continuously from a DC power supply for several weeks at a time without any trouble.
