It says on the box "MP3 & jpeg compatible" and in really small letters (requires mattel MP3 Starter kit #H4448. Available soon.) I'm not sure what this means- but it seems like this cant be used as an MP3 player which is what I bought this for. Also it dose not come with Headphones. I bought this as a gift and I'm not sure that it will make a good one.

A great little media player - if Mattel made the media you want to play. The screen is adequate, battery life is okay, but you can only really play video media that Mattel created and placed in special chips. Hackers like to play with these due to the embedded cLinux running the box. It is possible to boot and run simple Linux code from the box (very simple code.) It is a novelty at best but can be hacked into a tiny photo viewer or used as a very simple and basic MP3 player, though in both cases you cannot use your photos or MP3s in their native format and must run the JuiceWare converter programs.
If you buy this (except to hack) also buy a bunch of the JuiceWare chips so you'll have something to play - then hand it to your 7-8 year-old and let them play. They'll stay amused for 2-3 hours tops.
