Saxon Math is mentioned with awe in homeschooling circles.

Here's a blurb from Saxon Publishers.com: Saxon Publishers commitment to education, and to the belief that all students have a right to be educated, is reflected in its mission to ensure access to instructional materials with proven records of success. Saxon's focus is on results, both tangible and intangible. Saxon's tangible results can be seen in improving test scores and the intangible results include those 'light-bulb moments' when a student realizes they are able to comprehend a concept. It is this devotion to creating these results that drives us every day.

What makes each book so different from the usual public school offerings is its lack of non-math distractions such as photos, biographies, and "real life" examples. Saxon Math is only MATH. Each lesson builds on previous lessons from earlier grades. Each lesson is chock-full of practice examples, problem sets, reviews and new concepts.

Saxon works!

  Saxon Math Program
Review created: 03/19/07

I agree with Mr. Saxon about removing nonessential items from math textbooks and concentrating on pure math. My son's public school district uses Saxon math curriculum. One of the most essential elements of the Saxon program is review. My son does not ever forget past lessons (even from grade levels ago) because all concepts are continually reviewed. The only deviation from the Saxon program is the grade level assigned to each series. My son will begin Book 87 in about a month, and he is in 5th grade. I am not sure the content is truly at 7th grade level according to the standards of today, but that is no problem, as the kids finish one book, just start them in the next book because the lessons do build upon each other very nicely!

  Saxon Math for 7th Grade

Saxon Math is a great overall curriculum for teaching 7th grade math at home. I have taught in public school and I have homeschooled my children for the past five years .It has been my experience that this math is friendly for either setting. I would highly recommend this product.

  Saxon Math 87

This is a good math book, but I disagree with the author. He states that this is just a math book, free of distractions and photos and real-life problems. He feels it's better to leave these out and "just have math".

It's true that in this book, there is only math....... but photos & real-life problems are helpful and encouraging to students and why they are in the public school books. Students tend to work better with colorful pages. My daughter hates this book because there are no pictures and colorful pages. She finds it so boring and can't stand to open it although she does very well with math. She is good at math. I checked out a book at the library that was colorful and she is now happier and doing even better. You have to find out what kind of student you have in order to help them. You want to make homeschooling fun and not a "drudge".

Also, Saxon Math books don't seem to be thorough and they don't seem to build with each lesson. The public school books are at a higher level, so you may need to see what your student should be learning in their grade level and then see if all the concepts they need to learn are actually in the book that states the grade level. You may need a higher level.

On-time delivery, product in excellent condition, and packaged securely. Saxon Math is a highly regarded math curriculum especially for a student who struggles with this subject. I have used it for 2 years and have seen my daughter make progress in leaps and bounds.

  Saxon Math

I have homeschooled my children for 7 years, and have probably used most brands of curriculum.
I stumbled upon the Saxon and decided to give it a try - it works perfect for us
each concept is repeated over and over again throughour the daily lessons.
This is great especially for my son who seems to forget what he learned just last week.
We start each day with the mental math, together we go over the new concept and
do the practice problems, afterwords, they are free to do the lesson problems.
If they forget a concept previously taught there is ref. to the unit alongside the problem.
Saxon is a wonderful investment for our family and worth a try for yours.

Normally this book costs about 40-60 dollars new. So, what a blessing to find this math book for my son who is homeschooling at such a reasonable price! My son loves the book. He says it is easy to understand and the work required each day is not overwhelming. Saxon Math makes learning fun.

  As Always, Saxon Delivers

Saxon Math is irreplacable. It speaks directly to the student in language they can understand. The repetition of the lessons concretely gives your child a solid foundation on which to build the next level of mathematics. Children are more confident about their skills and are less anxious about new challenges. Saxon will always be my choice from 5/4 through Algebra 2. It can be helpful to remember to try to choose the older editions of the textbook. The newer ones are more classroom driven and can have too much irrelevent information.

  Good way to shop

Since I purchase a lot of school books to homeschool my daughters, Ebay is a great resource for finding what I need. Not only does it open up a larger base of people to purchase from, but when I'm finished with the books, I can use ebay to sell them. I feel like Ebay helps in bringing the buyer and the seller together. The security features are great as are all the helps for creating an excellent listing. The Math books I purchases were in great shape and delivered quickly.

Ebay is also a good place to research prices on the items I am looking at. Obviously the bidding makes the pricing more competitive, but it also gives me a good idea of my prices when I go to sell something...whether its here or just locally in yard sale.

I'm alway confident using Ebay and I will continue to use it in the future.

Excellent Math Curriculum for Homeschoolers and others
Review created: 09/09/07

I have been using Saxon Math to homeschool my daughters for the past four years. I love the simple way each lesson is explained with examples and then practice. There is also review of past concepts throughout. I couldn't homeschool without Saxon Math!
