At first glance, this book is a "snapshot" in time of places around the world. But read on!! The statistics provided open the door to the realization that Americans truly live an unbelievable existence as compared to others around the world! Great for the classroom or the coffee table. Everyone can learn from it!

The pictures are great and the write ups are so informative. I use it in my ESL classes mostly to get the students to converse and to review their vocabulary. They can use the photos as a starting point for comparatives with their native country.

  Fantastic Insight
Review created: 01/10/09

What a wonderful look at how others live. Families from all over the world show us the contents of their homes, the dwelling in which they reside and those who live with them. It's fascinating! I used this book for a Girl Scout lesson and gave it as a gift to a well-traveled teacher.

  Amazing book
Review created: 09/17/08

If you haven't heard of this book, what the author did is find the average economic family for a number of different countries worldwide, and he took a picture of that family in front of their house with all of their belongings. Then he gives a biography of that family telling how they live, where they work, etc... The pictures are just amazing. It's so cool to see how other people live compared to us, and when you see the average American family (Texans, BTW), you might be a little embarassed to see how much useless crap they have compared to other people. Amazing stuff!
