Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child, Louisette Bertholle, Simone Beck (2001, Hardcover, Anniversary)

I bought this book as soon as I got home from seeing the movie, "Julie and Julia".
Great movie and even greater cookbook. I had gotten bored with all of my American cookbooks. This gives me exactly the things I need to venture into French cooking. Very well written, easy to follow and entertaining as well.

I bought this book after seeing the movie Julie & Julia. Already having a love of cooking, it inspired me to improve my skills. There are numerous recipes in each category with excellent directions for each. Quite a number of recipes for vegetarians in the vegetable section but not for vegans. Butter, butter, and more butter is the guide. (I suppose you could substitute oleo, but the flavor would be SO different!) One of the best features of this book is the pairing suggestions: which wines complement the dish, which vegetables go well with the entree, etc. Also, the section at the beginning of the book explaining the different French cuts of meat and how they compare/interchange with American cuts was truly informative. The only drawback from my viewpoint - I wish there were more illustrations for some of the more difficult instructions; such as boning a duck!

I waited over a month to get the product, finally gave up and bought it at a bookstore. Very disappointing.
The book itself, however, is fantastic! The instructions are extremely detailed and easy to understand, often accompanied by diagrams. The food is delicious. Keep in mind though, that Julia loved butter a little too much, so you can probably reduce the amount she uses by at least a fourth in every recipe (unless of course you like the taste too much, it's up to you).

As a retired home economist, I love the information that is given in this book. It is not easy to find books with the amount of information that is found here. The recipes are in French titles with translations underneath. All steps are explained so that even a beginner could understand the directions. This is a cookbook for the ages. We are so used to trying to do things quickly that we forget the satisfaction that comes from trying new and unique recipes. Enjoy!

After seeing the movie I had to own the book! It's a very informative book, taking you step by step and explaining why you take each step for every type of food preparation. It has been updated to include the newer appliances, such as food processors which weren't available at the time of the first writing.

I was impressed with the simplicity of the recipes. I have impressed my friends and family with my "cooking skills" using this book!

I never got my book!! It's been 2weeks past due what is up? I ordered from what is suppose to be a good seller. This is my first time to not get my product. What can I do?

I purchased this book and paid for a 2 day delivery. Eight days have passed and I have yet to receive it.

Can not review this item or leave feed back either way. The seller never sent me the book. and I have yet to see a credit on my account. Probably will be a good cook book when I find another.

Excellent source of recipes; instructions and illustrations are excellent. Would recommend for all cooks, novices & experienced.

I bought the cookbook by Julia Child after seeing the movie Julie/Julia. My objective was to read her basic instructions, which are known to be superb, and add to my cooking skills. Nice cookbook for any kitchen.

It is just what we expected and a great addition to our cooking library. It arrived promptly & in good condition, no problem.

Beautiful book ... I got it to give as a gift so I haven't actually used it. I know my friend wanted it after seeing the recent movie. She intends to become a French cook!

I like the book and how it is laid out. It inspires me (like the movie did) to cook some of the dishes. My particular favorite is Creme Brulee'. I just love that stuff. Haven't made any yet, maybe Friday night with my granddaughter we will make some. Brand new condition. I need more time at home...so I can cook some of these recipes...They seem a little time consuming compared to throwing something together for a quick supper after work. I'll bet the time is well worth the effort in the outcoming dish/recipe. I am anxious to see.

Great recipes, Most products are easy to find. Tell what kind of wine to drink with the meal. It is an older book but the recipes are up to date.

Well given that I paid for this book and never received it, I am unable to write a review about it! The seller took my money and then I was informed that they were no longer a registered user of ebay! So even though it was only a $2.00 loss, I am not happy about the fact that I don't know how to get my money back. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did not receive this book. The seller did not send it nor did the seller contact me about the book. I emailed the seller several times with no reply.
The only reason I rated it poor was because I did not receive the book and I could not submit this without rating it. This rating does not reflect my opinion of the book. I am VERY disappointed that I did not receive it.
