Album notes
MASTER OF PUPPETS was Metallica's last album with bass player Cliff Burton. Burton was killed in a traffic accident. He was replaced by Jason Newsted.
Metallica: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar); Kirk Hammett (guitar); Cliff Burton (bass); Lars Ulrich (drums).
Recorded at Sweet Silence Studios, Copenhagen, Denmark from September through December, 1985.
Metallica's irresistible rise to the top continued with this enigmatic 1986 album. A constant touring unit by this point, their combination of light and dark and their deft staccato delivery, especially on the title track, came brusquely through. Their ever-lengthening arrangements (three songs came in at over eight minutes), bolstered by the precise snap of Hetfield's vocals, testified to their undeniable power. The striding "Battery," the darkly lit "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," as well as the complex instrumental, "Orion," all gave powerful testament to their ever-developing skill and vision.

  Shredda-licious guitar action!

Boo-yah! This cd rocks! This was the era when Metallica was still producing breakthrough heavy metal music. The mid-80's were absolutely without a doubt in most metal-heads minds the time period when Metallica was making their best music. The guitar work on this blows you away! The lyrics are profound and makes statements that really were lost after the bands self titled "Black Album" period. If you take the time to listen to all of the bands material from beginning to end then compare the statements made by looking at the lyrics you'll see what I have all along (for the past 25 years that is)...this is simply one of the bands best musically and lyrically written releases by far! My best example is a few lines from the song "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"...'No more can they keep us in, listen dammit, we will win! They see it right, they see it well but they think this saves us from our hell. Sanitarium leave me be. Sanitarium, just leave me alone.'

Every song on the album comes to you with an unparalleled explosive energy that you will get on no other album. This CD is a good listen from begining to end. TURN IT UP! PLAY IT LOUD! ENJOY!

Master Of Puppets, best Metallica album

Everything on there is good. The songs are great, the lyrics are amazing, Orion is great, the only bad thing is there is only 8 tracks! Its a definate 5/5, starting with one of their best songs, Battery, and ending with their most influential song to date: Damage, Inc.

Battery - 10/10 - Amazing song, from beginning to end. Lyrics are perfect.
Master Of Puppets - 10/10. Really good beat and lyrical song. Drugs are bad is the theme, which is a great theme.
The Thing That Should Not Be - 9/10 - Great song, great mood, awesome guitar and drum coordination.
Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - 9/10 - A great calming song that you could play anytime.
Disposable Heroes - 8/10 - Really heavy metal, great if you like war games or third person shooters.
Leper Messiah - 9/10 - Perfect tempo and pace, all about religion and how people are sucked into paying money, touches my heart personally.
Orion - 9/10 - Greatest metallica instrumental next to Call Of The Ktulu.
Damage, Inc. - 11/10 - This song is amazing, the lyrics, the solos, everything. The only thing wrong with this song is that it ends in 5 minutes.

If you have to get ANY metallica CD, this is the one to get.

If you like heavy metal and you don't have this album then you truly don't like heavy metal. If you look up heavy metal in the dictionary you will find this cd as an example. This is Metallica's best. You have to have this cd if you do not have it. Just go to the purchase button and push it. Don't even think about or debate it. When this cd comes in the mail you will be a TRUE HEAVY METAL MANIAC.!

I am pleased with my purchase. It sounds a little grainy, but I don't know if it is my CD player or the CD.

  Legendary Metallica
Review created: 08/26/09

There is a reason Metallica has been around for almost 30 years. That reason is that they simply make good music. I grew up listening to them on cassette so as my casettes have worn out over the years it was time to upgrade to CD's and of course I wasn't disappointed. From the first tune to the last riff this doesn't disappoint. Buy it, love it, and remember where you were through the years listening to what is in my opinion, the greatest metal band ever assembled.

Master of Puppets - Metallica (CD)
Review created: 11/17/08

I bought this CD to add to my collection of my favorite bands. Plus the metallica concert is getting close so I would like to brush up on the old tunes. The CD is in excellent shape as the seller had stated in the description. Very satisfied with this purchase. Thank you. RG

  Metal Magic
Review created: 05/23/08

Unbelievable metal album, the great Cliff Burton keeping perfect time on bass. After he departed and joined the choir invisible, the boys in Metallica were never the same. Their last few albums have been practically unlistenable, dreadful, middle of the road metal, no balls whatsoever. "Master of Puppets" was their masterpiece and any fan of screaming guitars and angst-ridden lyrics considers this disk indispensable.

One of the best by Metallica. I think this was one of the last time they had some reallllly good instrumentals. "orion" is one of the best. Back when I started getting into Metallica #5, #6 and #8 had to grow on me, but once I was use to their music and their style, this CD turned into my 2nd fav.

THE GREATEST HEAVY ALBUM OF ALL TIME!
Review created: 02/10/08

This is their masterpiece and it is so under any terms. They truly dropped the hammer on this one. It is the greatest heavy Metal album of all time. It's 20 years old and it still rings as fresh today as the day it was released. The title track is a composition, not a song. It displays the music ability that they have and have never been given due credit for. The song writing is tight and controlled and the songs are all based on real and serious topics. This is not your grandmothers metal.....

  Master Of Puppets - Metallica
Review created: 06/15/07

I was first introduced to Metallica through the “Black” album and I fell in love with the band then! I had to, from that point, go back and buy all their previous records. While Master Of Puppets didn’t reach the commercial success of the “Black Album” this is Metallica’s finest work! It begins and ends with 2 songs of metal mayhem (Battery & Damage Inc.). The instrumental “Orion” kicks butt along with “Welcome Home” & “Master of Puppets”.

If you’re into heavy metal this is a classic!
