  Best Strategy Game Ever!!!!
Review created: 07/25/08

I've been playing Master of Orion 2 since my older sister's ex-boyfriend introduced it to us and it STILL can take me for a spin. You create your own empire, taking over star systems, interacting with other races who may or may not like you, and keeping the universe from killing you.

If you're on Vista or XP you'll need a patch and a zipfile to play but Master of Orion 2 is MUCH better than Master of Orion 3. And there are plenty of people out there willing to help you get going! Happy conquering!

A great turn based strategy game. One planet, eight people, how far can you go from these humble beginings? The whole galaxy, if you're good!

one of the best strategy games ever made.
Review created: 12/17/06

This game, for its time, had prety good graphics and scenery in general. Just like the other reviews say, you play one of eight very different races in a
galaxy where you can choose the number of stars, mineral content, difficulty and other aspects. each race has special advantages and some races are more challenging to win with and represent a challenge to more experienced players.
You get very involved with the development of your planets and must be careful
not to offend the other races and be prepared to go to war at any time. You can negotiate trade and research treaties with other powers.

One other great thing about this game is the music. There is an overall majestic gameplay theme, a combat theme, and each race has its own music which is played when you are dealing with them on the diplomatic screen. Very cool, well thought out captivating music.

Sometimes the manual combat gets a bit long and tedious, especialy when it's 100 ships vs. another big armada. it's ok in smaller engagements but a hassle when you must micromanage all of your ships. That's one change in MOO 3 I actually liked. The combat there was in real time and your commanders were in charge unless you interjected orders. Also there were a lot of bugs in this game so make sure you know where to get patches. Overall a very fun absorbing game, very similar to Star Trek Birth of the Federation which came out after this game

  Masterful Game of Orion
Review created: 07/10/06

This is space game. You play against either computer or human players. It has a hot seat setting to allow to people to share a computer. It can get boring in a long game. You can set up the parameter of the game. The size of the universe, number of other players, type of planets young, middle, or old. This affects the type of mineral deposits and the chance of life evolving on the different planets. When you advance up the tech tree you can terraform world to Gaia class which is a perfect world. You can set up the abilities of your race or pick one of the premade races. The most important traits is creativity. This allows to learn all the tech tree instead of stealing or trading with the races. This game is an balacncing act. You need to expand your world but build enough to ship to defend yourself. Some of the threat messages from the computer players are silly or annoying but you get lost in the joy of playing. You look up and realize that it is an hour past your bedtime and you have to go to work in the morning. I actually buy anther recently because I was worried that my old one would wear out. I feel this is better that Galatic Civilization. I love science fiction so it seem natural to like science fiction based games.
