How to Master Airbrush Painting Techniques by JoAnn Bortles (2007, Paperback)

This book gives the beginner great insight into airbrushing, JoAnn writes this book in a very conversational way, so the reader is not bored with too much technical language. She begins with some of her background, then gives everything someone might want to know about airbrushing from brushes to paints to everything in between. Even thought most, if not all the art is done on motorcycle tanks the techniques still apply. If you are not into much reading and like lots of pictures the book is for you, every step of the particular technique is outlined with diagrams to assist you along the way. The book receives an A+ from me and hope you guys find it as interesting as i did.

Excellent book. Starts with the basics, explains the different types of airbrushes and their uses, teaches basic strokes and practice techiques, and continues on through more advanced projects. If you've never picked up an airbrush before but think you might like to try, this is a good place to start. If you're familiar with the airbrush but think you're ready for more than just painting model cars, this is also the book you are looking for. This is not for someone wanting to do taxidermy or studio nudes, this is aimed towards the custom motorcycle/hot-rod croud. Very well written with lots of quality photos of the authors work and how-to projects. Highly recommended.

I bought 2 other books, wanting to start airbrushing, I am a professional painter by trade, the other books were worthless in my opinion. This book teaches a beginner, all the way up to serious advanced tech's. If you are wanting to learn to air brush, don't waste your time, pony up the cash for this book and you will be well rewarded!!!!

The book covered a lot of information that I needed. I felt that she used too many pictures from her early years. Just glancing through the book left me feeling like it was real professional, even though it was. Good book with a lot of information.

The book is a very good beginners book, and starts out teaching about all the basics of airbrush painting, explaining the equipment used, and what is needed to get started. It tells in very good layman terms all details needed to setup a beginner. JoAnn Bortles is first and foremost an excellent artist, lending to her quite capable abilities to teach novices the art of airbrush. She presents everything in simple manner, so it easy to understand. You don't have to go back over whatever you just read and think "What is she saying?" It's all there in very good detailed pictures and simple black and white print. An excellent book for the beginner!
