Marley and Me by John Grogan (Digital)

just finished Marley and Me last night. I picked it up last weekend at Barnes & Noble as I was walking near the magazines. The adorable photo on the cover caught my eye....they had a display of the book out in the open. Being an avid animal and dog lover, I couldn't pass it up.

Needless to say, I devoured the book in two days. I loved it. To me it was so refreshing to see such commitment in another dog owner. I have always believed that when you adopt a pet it should be part of the family, and it is a lifelong commitment. You don't give up and get rid of them, just because of hard times or problems.

I applaud Mr. Grogan, and his family, for being the kind of people who love and care for their dog friends and for writing such a heartfelt tribute to his pal, Marley. Pets ask for so little and return so much.

I have had many dogs and I always get a kick out of the commercial on TV for a new ziplock dogfood bag for a certain chow...they use the expression "Dogs Rule". How perfect. There is nothing quite like having a dog, whether they have impeccable manners or not.

I laughed and I cried and I understood everything that Mr. Grogan had to say. I also live in Florida so I felt a special connection to the Grogans when they were speaking of the culture here and the thunderstorms--and how dogs hate them.

All in all, Mr. Grogan's writing is clear and interesting and down to earth. I couldn't put the book down. It is a joy.

I even went so far and to visit the website he has listed in the book. There was an email address to write to him, which I did, and I was absolutely amazed when Mr. Grogan wrote back to me three hours later to thank me for my nice comments.

Do yourself a favor and read the book.....you'll close it in the end and your heart will feel like it is too large to fit inside your chest.

I recently spent 3 weeks with a friend who had knee replacement surgery. She had a copy of "Marley and Me" at her house, and I took it to the hospital with me to read while she was in surgery and the recovery room. I almost forgot why I was there, I was so engrossed in the book!

After retiring from a professional career, I found myself standing in the lobby of a small, rural, Texas veterinary practice uttering something like, "Do you need anyone?" Five days later I started part-time work there, and began making observations about people and their pets and recording humorous anecdotes that happen in the practice (like the lady that wanted some Valium to give her labs before she took them out to exercise).

In time I began to wonder if pets somehow pick us, rather than the other way around. "Marley and Me" concretely reinforces this suspicion. Who else but the Grogans would have given this wonderful, crazy dog such unconditional acceptance throughout an entire lifetime of antics that would have driven most people to the brink. As much as I love dogs, "Marley" would not have lasted in my household.

"Marley" found himself the perfect home and the Grogan's were rewarded in many different ways for their love, patience (to an infinite degree) and devotion to the end. The book is beautifully written, is quite humorous, and brings you to tears in the end. This book is a pet lover's delight.

I have a lab she is 1 1/2 yr. now but when she was little i had a lot of trouble with her. my trainer said i should read this book, i see Zoe is not bad at all compared to Marley, guess i was luckier then i thought great book funny i laughed alot

This is a wonderful book. It is so interesting, and informative. Especially, if you have ever had a dog! Pet owners will undoubtedly get a kick out of this book!!!

I just finished this book today, and actually cried near the end. Animal lovers will love this as John Grogan describes his dog like I have never been able to, but see and feel the same way. I highly recommend this book!

I by all means am not a dog liker, much less a dog lover. But, I read this book for my book club, and my friends who also dislike dogs also thought, "Oh, great!" (sarcastically) But, we all found a love and understanding for dogs and that for owners they ARE family members- I saw Marley as a character with emotions- not "just a dog." I highly recommend it! Also, I'm a flight attendant and when I see passengers reading it- it brings a smile to my face and I make sure to dicuss it with them!

What an endearing story and truly touching to those that have had a dog or many dogs touch their lives in the way Marley did. It's a great reminder of the true innocence, loyalty and unconditional love that dogs exhibit.

John Grogan is my hero. He is a true dog lover and his story is so touching. Any dog person would love this book and surly can relate to alot in this book. I read this book in less than 24 hours. I hope to read more of his books.

My friend got it from the library and thought I would like it. So I purchased it since I don't have a library close to me to borrow it. I was happy that I purchased it. I found it funny and similar to my own experiences with our dog when he was a puppy. It was well written and heart warming.

Anyone who is a dog lover will truely relate to this book. It is everything a dog owner will experience in the lifetime of their beloved friend laughter, loyalty, sadness, and true compassion!

I purchased Marley and Me a couple of weeks ago, have already read it and passed it on to my daughter who has read it also. This is a wonderful book, especially for dog lovers. You just can't put it down, waiting to see what Marley has done next is just out of the question. This book brings lots of laughs, but also heart touching tears. I would recommend this very well written book.

Do not go and see the movie-read this book! (the movie cannot compare to the book, sorry to say) I have read Marley and me twice! It is that good, and I read ALOT of books about pets and wild animals. John Grogin and his wife buy a Lab pup who does indeed turn out to be the words worst dog, but also the funniest, and the most loveable! Marley literally destroys their home, but he does imporve over time, and gets trained to some degree. The family moves from Florida up north taking Marley with them. Reading about Marley's antics, and his interraction with his family, and others makes you laugh your head off. Towards the end it does get sad, because as we know, dogs get old fast. Be prepared to cry alot. I am planning to read it a third time. I recommend it to all who love pets and dogs.

I bought the book for my mother because she is crazy about dogs. She found the story very touching and hard to put the book down. I can't give you details about the book because I personly did not read the book, I can only tell you what she told me. She really enjoyed it! Thank you.

I have had dogs all my live, as well as worked with them as a law enforecement K-9 officer. I saw a lot of Marley in a few dogs I have had. Mr Grogan is an excellent story teller and gets to the heart of the matter. Marley is a free spirit, but does not lack loyality. His antics are typical for a lab, and the Grogans had to learn how to raise a lab in their home from scratch. This book is an excellent read, especially for those who have had the honor of a canine companion in their lives.

This book is great for pet lovers and especially those who own dogs. It would be helpful if all prospective dog owners read this book. It pulls no punches-labs are a joy to have but also require much work.

I found this book to be amusing, but it was difficult not skipping pages to get to livelier parts in the book.

By most peoples standards, Marley was actually a pretty well behaved dog. I know a lot of people who couldnt trust their dog inside unsupervised for 5 minutes. Marley was an angel in comparison.

I do like how the author explains the difference between good and bad breeders, and demonstrates responsible pet ownership by neutering Marley when he realized that he wasnt show/ breeding quality.

This book shows what it means to be a dedicated pet owner. The world should take heed.

This is a very good book I like to buy. The price of this product is not high for me. Overall, I'd recommend this product if you're on a budget.

I herd reviews about this book and I had to have it. It was worth getting it is so real that my black lab is just like Marley. excellent book. will recommend to my freinds to read it.
