Marjorie Morningstar

Bought this because I used to watch it on late night TV as a 13 year old baby sitter for a NY play producer's family (really!!) And its all about post-WWII NY in broadway shows. And the love-hate relationship between a gorgeous Jewish girl and a not-so-motivated song writer she meets during her post-college summer of freedom, before her parents pressure into marrying that nice, Jewish boy (the son of a businessman... in other words, a 'great catch!' according to her mom,)and when she falls for Gene Kelly, in a role he has never played, before or since. A virginal Natalie Wood is worth watching just for the way she wears her up-town clothes, and Gene is, well, Gene. yabba-dabba-doo. If you can't stand romantic, 1950's NY films, set in the naked city, don't buy it. But if you adore Natalie and Gene-- as only they can play it-- then snap this one up. They'll never make another one. PS- key to the Nat-Gene affair: he switches her name from Morgenstern to Morningstar. Guess why?? Happy viewing!
