This game is an absolute blast for people of all ages! The courses are a ton of fun, it is constantly challenging, and you can race with up to 3 other people in the room, or race with strangers all over the world!

This is probably one of the best games out there, and it is even a ton of fun for people that aren't fans of racing games!

  MARIO KART WII QUICK REVIEW
Review created: 03/01/09

If your a fan of the Mario Kart series, then this one is a no brainer. Its a timeless clasic, and little has changed for the game except that it is now on Wii. If you want to have even more fun then i would suggest getting the Wii wheel for this game. If you have friends over, then this game would be the one to play. Tons of fun!

It's just a great game all around! The graphics are great, and having 2 steering wheels make the game.

  Great family-friendly fun

In an age where games are becoming more and more graphic with their realistic violence and mature with their subject-matter, it's great to know that there are some video game standbys that you can fall back on. Although Mario had his humble beginnings battling the wicked Donkey Kong in the early 80s, he really became the face of family-friendly video games when Nintendo started issuing Super Mario Bros. with its 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) back in the mid/late 80s, and the franchise has grown with each Nintendo console release. First, there were the simple platform games, which eventually evolved into 3-D exploration when 3-D gaming hardware took the mainstream. Then, there were the Mario Kart racing games.

Mario Kart Wii is the latest installment in the Mario Kart racing games, and it delivers all the expected joys of racing familiar characters and skewering them with turtle shells and bombs...ooh, nice animated violence! I have to admit that I skipped a generation or 2 of the Mario Kart games simply because I never owned a Game Cube or any of the portable handheld game systems (i.e., Gameboy, DS, etc.). If you are going to play Mario Kart, I strongly suggest that you play this with the Wii Wheel. I recall that back in the N64 days, learning to drive on a Nintendo controller had a bit of a learning curve. The Wii Wheel really smooths and eases that learning curve. You'll still have to deal with the occasional steering sensitivity problem, but I got the hang of driving with a Wii Wheel much faster than driving with a controller (which is still an option, by the way). Although gameplay is fairly straight-forward, there are a few nuances here and there (particularly maneuvering tips) that reading the manual beforehand helps out with. All in all, there's really nothing to complain about here. I absolutely love this game. Mario Kart Wii is a great game that both adults and children will enjoy thoroughly.

Now, let's just hope I don't envision turtle shells as I'm driving to work in my Civic.

I really like this game with lots of different courses, characters and vehicles to choose from it can be a lot of fun. I do think it can be difficult for some of the younger members of the family, my neice is 7 and she kept getting stuck in the grass verge or a fence and couldnt get free to carry on the race so ended up last, bless her. Maybe with some practice younger children will get used to it. This is another game to bring the family together as it can be played up to 4 players.

Mario Kart Wii - Great Family Fun!
Review created: 04/15/09

Mario Kart Wii has courses for nearly every ability level. I say nearly because my 4 year old would benefit from a closed oval track that would allow him to learn how to steer without the frustration of going off course. As it is, he asks to play often but rarely plays long because he "can't get unstuck."

The racing wheel is not necessary to play the game. I prefer to race with just the Wiimote, while my husband races with the wheel. If you do use a wheel, don't go cheap and get a non-branded wheel. I couldn't stay on the track with my cheap one. The wheel that comes with Mario Kart works much better!

This was the one thing my son wanted for his birthday. Couldn't find it anywhere in stock within driving distance. Obviously, a very popular game. The kids really enjoy playing it. I would recommend purchasing an additional steering wheel.

If you thought the aroma wafting from Smash Bros.' warmed-over Wii appearance seemed stale, try a whiff of Mario Kart Wii -- it's so predictable that it's practically vintage. But don't think for a second that this latest iteration isn't still a stellar kart racer -- even after over 15 years of facing contenders to the karting throne, nobody does it better than Nintendo -- but series vets need to prepare for regression. While 2003's Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GameCube) took daring risks with the formula by adding two-man vehicles, character-specific power-ups, and co-op play, this sequel regrettably jettisons all of those enhancements. Now, it's clear that those radical innovations weren't all popular among the vast legion of Mario Kart players, but they added tremendous depth and facilitated high-level gameplay for those who wanted it.
Mario Kart Wii feels highly reactionary, as if Nintendo willfully sought to dumb down the driving mechanics in order to even the playing field for the masses. Bundling the game with the plastic Wii Wheel contraption reinforces that commitment to democratizing gameplay: Sure, nongamers will get a kick out of careening around the course via tilt controls and gesticulations, but you'll find yourself haphazardly oversteering. The wheel isn't necessarily your enemy, though. It's solidly constructed and comfortable; players who stick with its motion-controlled driving for a few races will eventually acclimate to it. But of the game's four control options, the Wii Remote-and-Nunchuk combo clearly works the best: It's the only way to get both familiar analog stick steering and the freedom to easily put the crucial new trick system to use with the Wii-mote. Plus, this new split control setup feels perfectly suited for the newly added motorcycles, allowing you to make tight turns while launching weapons and landing tricks with ease.

I had always been a fan of the mario kart series as soon as they came out, I remember playing the Nintendo 64 version endless hours with the family...Now you can be put in the driver's seat and realistically control the driver...The new wii wheel is a great addition to the already thriving system and the endless hours of fun continue...great for all ages and the competitive online play only increases the games diversity.

Mario Kart wii is really cool.....although the wheel remote makes it a bit harder to drive, so it's a bit more challenging...really recomend it.

If you loved the past Mario Kart games, you will love this one twice as much. It has the same great, fun and exciting gaming experience as the past Mario Kart games, but has many more updates. For Example, you can use the fun and easy to use racing wheel to drive. You can even play online with your friends. If you have a Wii and a crave for a great Racing Game for the Wii this is the game for you.

This game is REALLY FUN! With all the different character, cart, & bike options, you can make the game more or less challenging for yourself. Either way, this game is also a crowd pleaser! My husband and I had a great time playing it with our visiting niece & nephews.

You can definitely play the game without the Wii wheel, but I think it's easier and more fun with some sort of game wheel. Overall a great buy!

AWESOME game! Fun anytime, anywhere, anybody. The game has great characters, great vehicle choices and the fact that you can open even more of both makes the game addicting and a true challange. You can make it as hard as you wish making it ideal for a 5 year old or a 45 year old (assuming that the 5 year old is teaching the 45 year old how to play, lol). You couldn't go wrong with this game if you tried.

This is a most excellent game! I played with my son and his wife and decided to buy my own it was so much fun. Game is loaded with options and the graphics are great! It is very easy, even for older users like me, to maneuver through the options and play this game. Games can be completed in relatively short periods or all day, and with different tracks, vehicles, and drivers drivers, it never gets boring. It is great for single or multiplayer games, and I would recommend it for ages 6-99.
