THIS IS A FASCINATING TOUR OF ITALIAN COOKING BY AN AUTHOR WHO KNOWS HIS CRAFT. ALL THE RECIPES ARE AUTHENTIC AND INTERESTING TO PREPARE. IT'S NOT A BOOK FOR BEGINNERS, BUT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO COOK REAL ITALIAN DISHES, YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY TRY THIS BOOK.

i just recently rec'd this book and altho, Mario's recipes are somewhat complicated, they are very tasty and mostly use ingredients easily located. He provides insight to their origins of the dishes and himself.

I bought this cookbook because Mario is a celebrity chef and I have seen him perform on "Iron Chef". I have tremendous respect for the man. I found the cookbook to be a bit boring and felt that some of the recipes while perhaps simple, were time consuming.

I love watching Mario cook. Now I'll have the chance to do some cooking of my own. The recipes are simple as the title states. You will not go wrong with this book. I'm an Italian- American and I'm quite fussy on what I consider to be authentic. These recipes are the real deal.

In addition to simple recipes, the layout of this cookbook is quite artistic and visually appealing. The only negative I would say is that it would be better, as with all cookbooks of they were bound so that they would lay open on a countertop.

My husband loves the food Mario Batali cooks on the Iron Chef and I wanted to give him one of his cookbooks for Christmas. After looking at several of his books I chose this. These may be simple recipes if you live in Italy but unless you have an Italian grocer nearby you won't be able to find all the ingredients. Even though we have traveled to Italy several times these recipes were probably not what we would have wanted to order even there. We have probably been too Americanized of what we expect Italian food to consist of.
