I was in the military during the Viet Nam conflict and heard about a marine sniper named Carlos Hathcock. One of my friends told me about the books written about him. Marine sniper is a book that describes in detail every situation so clearly that you feel like you are there with them as they crwal through the forest trying to stay undetected. If you love the United States of America and freedom you need to read this book. Carlos made a sacrifice for his country and his fellow marines. He was a true hero, someone for your kids to admire. Not because he killed the enemy, but because he cared so much for his Country and fellow marines. They were his family.

As an ex-Marine .... do remember on the shooting range of them talking about Gunny Hathcock, back in the early 70's. That a Marine Sniper was something every Marine should be.

An interesting account of a Marine Corps legend. Covering the part of Hathcock's youth and personal life, along with his exploits as a tournament shooter in the Corps. Prevocative accounts of his time in Vietnam as a sniper. Definitely worth checking out.

Fantastic book. Worth reading more than once

The book is a very good depiction of Carlos Hathcock (White Feather) in Vietnam. Despite the lack of advanced weaponry and optics available to modern-day soldiers he was able to effectively neutralize the enemy. Very inspirational. Great ending to the book but you gotta read it for yourself!

  A MUST read for everyone
Review created: 03/17/09

This book is very well written in a style that makes it easy to understand and follow. This is an excellent true story about Carlos Hathcock, Marine Sniper, and his comrades and friends. The author vividly describes the landscape and temperature, the events that happened and the personalities of the soldiers in such a way that I felt as if they were my friends. It will open your eyes to a small part of the hell that was Vietnam. It will tear your heart out at the same time that it is making you proud of these soldiers and what they endured for our freedom. I laughed, I cried and I cheered when he accomplished a mission! My heart was filled with pride and respect for this brave soldier, and anguish for the pain and suffering that he knew in his life. He was a man of good character and his life was devoted to the Marine Corps and America. I was impressed to learn about the sniper school that is still functioning today.
I was very interested in reading this book because my cousin was a sniper and Green Beret in Vietnam and will not speak about it to this day. I have always had great respect for him. I have more after reading this incredible story. Many people thought and still think that being a sniper is wrong. I think it is a necessary evil, a vital part of winning a war, no more wrong than any other part of war. Open your heart and try to imagine living the life that these men lived when you read this book. You will come away with a different point of view.
My heart was filled with overwhelming love for these men who gave so much for us. Brave men, strong men, willing to die if necessary, praying that what they were doing was making the world a better place. They were deserving of a hero's welcome when they returned home but many did not receive it.

Thrilling true story of the greatest sniper
Review created: 11/14/08

Gunnery Sargent Carlos N Hathcock II is one of the greatest snipers of all time. THE greatest in my humble opinion. This book will take you into the mind of White Feather, Vietnam's deadliest sniper. Henderson does a magnificent job of making you picture the environment and the situation vividly. To get the complete experience of Gunny Hathcock buy Silent Warrior, also by Charles Henderson, to read along with Marine Sniper. I think it only appropriate to close with a quote from the man himself; "The most deadly thing on the battlefield is one well aimed shot."

Marine Snioper is one of my favorite books.
I am a Vietnam Vet and I can relate very much to this book. This is one of those books that are hard to put down. I purchased this copy from Ebay because of the bargin and bercause I wanted to lend the book out to a man at work. I recomment another book as well. Killer Angels - by Michael Shaara - which is about the Battle of Gettysburg.

A True Review Of a real American Hero
Review created: 03/19/08

As a veteran of the US Army, I am and always will be a big fan of all the men and women in service to our nation. But above all I hold a special place in my heart for soldiers like Carlos Hathcock who go out into harms way and not only put their lives on the line for us back here at home, but who put the fear of God into the hearts of our enemies. Awesome read, excellent story, God Bless Gunny Hathcock and his family!
