Synopsis In this scathing, and sure to be controversial, assessment of the war in Iraq and the war on terror, Michael Scheuer unleashes a torrent of invective, criticizing policies in place before 9/11, when, he says, administrations failed to act on the evidence of terrorist training camps, etc., as well as since 9/11, when, in his view, the policies of the George W. Bush administration have only made things worse. Much of Scheuer's unique perspective comes from his experiences in the CIA, where, prior to 9/11, he was tasked with tracking Osama bin Laden. He marshals a great deal of evidence to support his argument, and is nonpartisan in his criticism of those in power. While many (or even most?) on either side of the political fence will be offended by his tone and rhetoric, others may find an informed assessment of our enemies, ourselves, and the world presented from an iconoclastic point-of-view.
