Mansfield Park (DVD, 2008)

I love all of Jane Austen's stories. Mansfield Park is no exception.
The difference between this movie and the BBC version is the length
of the film. The BBC version tells much more of the story as it un-
folds. That being said, this 90 minute movie, while it does move
quickly, is still a very good love story as two people find their way
through mixed emotions. The Masterpiece Theatre version is done very
well and the story is very heartwarming and romantic. I can watch it
again and again.

i loved the characters, they were exactly the way i pictured them in my head when reading the book. rich dialogues, too and a beautiful tenderness between fanny and edmund. i also loved his mother. at the end there is a beautiful portrayal of the ending of the book: the proposal as well as fanny's wedding, which moved me even more. i wish though there were english subtitles, so that i could better follow the beautiful language....still, their pronounciation is very clear and their voices so musical and soft and "english" that i am going to see it at least one million times!

I love all things Jane Austen; however, I liked the 1999 version of Mansfield Park from Miramax Films much better. This version (2008)seemed to drag and I did not feel that the tension built very well. I was a bit bored watching it.

Mansfield Park 2008 is so much different from the original version. It's different but really good. I'm still reading the book so I can't tell you if it's like the book but I can tell you it's worth watching. Also if you like period pieces I think you will like this one. The actors did a good job as well. I love the main actor. I wasn't sure if I would like the lead actress seeing as how I loved her in Doctor who, I wasn't sure if I'd like her in this type of role but when I watched it I thought she did a great job. I didn't even think of her being in Doctor who. So worth watching and I think you have to see this if your a Jane Austen fan.

I own an older version of this movie and really like it. This was a great version - great actors! Filmed on beautiful locations.

Great condition, I paid and within a couple of days it was in the mail...very happy with the DVD..Seller was very responsive and easy to work wiht.

I love the Jane Austin stories.. Some productions are better than others.
This one just didn't bring the story home like some of the others.
Still enjoyable, I'm glad I have added it to my collection. It's just not
one that will get as much play time.

I decided to buy this because I have always been impressed with Masterpiece theatre and the way they closely adhere to Jane Austen's stories. This was a disappointing exception. So much was left out and so much was glossed over. The essence of the story was lost and it was so very different from the actual story. I will not be watching this again. Perhaps if someone has not read the book they will enjoy this movie, but I did not.

Love this movie. I rented it and watched it 4 time in a week before I sent it back. Now I own it and watch it all the time.

I liked this version better that 2000, but the details in the story seemed to be changed a bit here and there. The actors are more appealing play settings and commotion is more interesting.

I had seen this as part of a series for Masterpiece Theatre "The Classics"
if you love Jane Austin, you will love this movie. Full of British aristocratic class distinctions and a truly romantic love story. Definitely a chick flix. I liked it so much I bought it as part of my collection. No complaints at all.

Don't get me wrong, in all, it was good; the actors played their characters very well, however, I felt several good parts of the book were missing in this film. In my opinion, it didn’t do justice for Jane Austen's novel.

Great "chick flick" as my husband would say. I bought this movie because I'm an avid Jane Austen fan. I love old CLEAN Victorian novels. I wasn't even aware that they had adapted this book to a movie. I just did a search on ebay for Jane Austen and found this one and others. You can't just go to the corner movie store and get these. When I found these on ebay I was thrilled. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

i love jane austen, but this version of one of my favorite books was a let down. some of the characters were very diffrent from the book (specifically, aunt norris. she should be downright nasty, but instead she feels almost lovable.) the scenry was nice, but i think there are better versions.

I quite enjoyed this adaptation. I have read the book & think the writers stayed fairly close to Jane Austen's "tone". I have seen adaptations of her other books, this is superior to most. The screenwriters were able to stay away from interjecting a modern feel to the script. They also gave the characters some depth. The casting was quite good as well. Billie Piper does an excellent job of playing Fanny. She is able to strike that delicate balance between showing deference to her "betters" & being her own person. The internal struggle of her uncle & aunt is evident, they want to love her like she was their own daughter, but society prevents this. The relationships are believable & the sets look like an actual home. It has a clean look to it, the days seem to be naturally sunny & the nights don't seem like they were in a darkened studio. I would recommend this to any Jane Austen lover. My only complaint is that the ending seemed a little rushed. It didn't flow at the same pace as the rest of the film.

Great movie. One of the best movie versions of the novel. It has been a pleasure to be able to purchase this version, as it is not easy to find.
