Mandingo (DVD, 2008)

For the first time, one of the great juwele cinema of the 70s, unabridged on DVD.
Legend Films worried that the publishing rights from several films from the Paramount "treasure chest" and brings us MANDINGO with a long-awaited classics in an almost flawless publication.
The 1,87:1 - image is changeable - fluctuates between good and very good - sometimes the picture is a little too dark and other times, the picture to weak colors. The DD 2.0 mono sound is clean and audible.
Hard to believe that this unabridged / uncensored (127 min.) Version an R rating received.
MANDINGO captivated and provoked an even more shocked today. It can be safely as Blaxploitation / Exploitation version of GONE WITH THE WIND call. The former (still unknown) young stars Susan George and Perry King perform in this film great benefits.
Unfortunately there was no way the extra on the DVD.
It is hoped that other film treasures of the 70s from the Paramount forge uncensored DVD light on the day (such as THE KLANSMAN).

A moving story, well acted, excellent sets and costumes. BUT, a great deal was omitted from the book by the screenwriters, dumbing down a very poignant story and dropping some vital story elements. Hence the motivations for various actions are murky and confusing. Great acting talent, esp. James Mason, wasted on a very poor script -- a bad takeoff of an excellent book.

I seen this movie long ago because it had ken norton in it. I like the era in witch the movie takes place. I thought this movie was realistic and maybe a little graphic.

I remember this movie from back in the 70's. I enjoyed and I enjoy it even more now. The acting was not bad but the message behind the story line of the movie was the reason I purchased this movie. It's a must for a movie library.

The DVD arrived in excellent condition.The picture and sound quality was very good.I saw this movie a long time ago and wanted to own it.I'm very satisfied.

A great movie that at time's is funny, enertaining, erotic but also sad too.
Hollywood maybe afraid to remake this movie today

the movie Drum came out shortly after Madingo, Drum is ok But I prefer Madingo

this was my second purchase of this classic movie , a tell of slavery in the old deep south . i myself am a decendant of slaves and was surprised at the number of my anglo friends ignorance of what slaves endured or of the evnts that occured after slaves were freed . this movies shows the brutal reality of those times and if you follow it closely enough you will begin to understand why there are so many shades of african americans ,in other words a lot of us have white blood in us because white slave owners had babies by slave women as did jefferson . brutal but a glimpse into that era , great movie and i will watch it over and over again to let me know how far we have come as a people and a nation .

I decided to buy the movie because it is a very good movie dealing with the turbulent past between black americans and white americans. I like the movie because it shows even then back in the 1800's during Americas darkest period the two races had to dwell deep in the human spirit to finally realize we are one race---the human race!!!

Last time I saw this movie was in the 80's. I would rate this as one of the better movies of that time, and its still good. I decided to buy because its on DVD with a better clarity. There wasn't anything I disliked about the DVD.

Lots of crazy white people. It was very interesting to see how people treated one another. Amazing that they couldn't see a persons worth. Crazy but sadly not to far from the truth.
