Varley's back
After two horrible bouts of mediocrity with the THUNDER books, SF hardliner Varley is back with an excellant story in Mammoth. Varley has always been able to do something special for me...he can take characters that I wouldn't want to meet anywhere and make me care enough at least to turn the page. And this novel has a memorable ending , even with its touchy-feely-ness. A great read!!
The book has a slightly left lean to it, and Varley will never be the libertarian his mentor Heinlein was, but mostly the preaching is non-existant.
