Mamma Mia! (DVD, 2009, Full Frame)

This is the most fun I've had in years. I went twice in one week to the movie theater (and I'd already seen it twice on stage), played the cd all the way home, then immediately bought two dvd's when it came out (one for a gift). The movie was totally upbeat and entertaining--with absolutely gorgeous scenery (something the stage couldn't hope to reproduce). Meryl Streep is not a professional vocalist, nor is "James Bond," but that was okay in the context of the script; at least they convinced the audience that they were having a ball. The casting was a bit different from stage versions, but still good. I had to watch it the second time to hear the curse word in it--which was a good thing since there were three generations of us there. The six year old went home singing lyrics, asked for the CD, and then wanted to discuss what was happening in the movie during each of the songs. When have you ever left a movie feeling so upbeat, so happy? While this is not every man's cup of tea, it is perfect for a girls' night or any night, for that matter.
