Mamma Mia! (DVD, 2009, 2-Disc Special Edition)

Based upon the stage musical of the same name which features many of the classic songs of the popular Swedish singing group ABBA, the film adaptation of "Mamma Mia!" is a real triumph beyond anybody's expectations. So many of the songs in the soundtrack are completely familiar to fans of this legendary group. The movie version was filmed on location in Greece and England. Included in the cast are Oscar-winner Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan, Pirece Brosnan as Sam Carmichael, Colin Firth as Harry Bright, Stellan Skarsgard as Bill Andersson, Julie Walters as Rosie, Christine Baranski as Tanya, Dominic Cooper as the fiance Sky, and screen ingenue Amanda Seyfried as Donna's daughter Sophie. The story of the production centers around the upcoming wedding of Sophie to Sky. She has invited three men whom she belives that one of them might be her father. Among the many great songs incorporated within the framework of the film are "Waterloo", "Dancing Queen", "Take A Chance On Me", "SOS" and "Mamma Mia". This 2-disc special edition also has the song "The Name Of The Game", which was cut from the film prior to release. The second disc contains deleted scenes, outtakes, featurettes, and the "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" music video. It also features a digital copy of the movie for play on PC, iPod, or other digital playing sources. This is, without a doubt, one of the very best movie musical adaptations ever filmed. The music and legacy of the group ABBA was always a lot of fun, and "Mamma Mia! The Movie" brings that legacy to the silver screen in a special way.

Meryl Streep (Rendition, The Devil Wears Prada and many more) gives a wonderful performance as Donna, who along with her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) run a rundown island inn.

Sophie is about to be married and wants her father, whom she has never met, and is not sure who he is, to give her away at the wedding. So Sophie invites all three of her mothers old flames (Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgard) to the wedding.

Reunions, good and bad follow when the three gents are re-introduced to Donna.

The entire movie is set to the music of ABBA from the 1970s and is full of musical numbers that are very well written and play right into the theme of the movie.

What I liked best is that Meryl Streep, who actually sings (Who knew she could sing?), really seemed to enjoy the role she was playing and the fun she was having was quite contagious.

This was a very enjoyable movie that I will gladly watch again.

Rated 5 of 5 for a wonderful story line and great acting and singing.

This movie is one for the entire family (With a few sexual references that may not be suitable for younger audiences).

WE'VE ALWAYS LOVE ABBA MUSIC AND HAVE SEVERAL ALBUMS. THE MOVIE IS SO ENJOYABLE, GOOD STORYLINE TO GREAT MUSIC. ESPECIALLY LIKE THE EXTRAS OF HOW THEY MADE THE MOVIE AND ALL THE WORK THE ACTORS PUT INTO IT. ALSO LOVE THE SING-ALONG. WORTH WATCHING AGAIN AND AGAIN.

this movie was very entertaining, funny, and just plan fun. Who knew Meryl and Pierce could sing? Loved it all the way through and I am not much of a musical fan , but this was a joy to watch and I will set through it again and again

Love the music in the film....brings me back to my high school days. Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski and Julie Waters are amazing. If you loved ABBA back in the day, you will love this movie!!

We loved this movie (kids were young enough that they didn't question why she has 3 dads!) I'm not usually a big Merryl Streep fan but she was great. She leading girl and guy have such wonderful voices! I don't usually buy myself videos, but this was one I had to have!

Charming musical set in beautiful Greece. Singing isn't all that wonderful at times but the A-list actors singing them with gusto makes up for it. I saw this in the theatre and purchased it for a gift basket I'm putting together for a bridal shower prize.

Definite Chick Flick. Some shouldn't be singing. Good scenery, acting and dancing. Who could complain about Abba songs.

Excellent! Was not disappointed. Didn't really think I would enjoy this as much as I did. Meryl Streep rocks! ABBA music was a part of my everyday life 25 years ago, was sure how much I would like a musical based on their songs, but it was well done and very entertaining. If you like the music then by all means watch it. A little corny at times but overall very good entertainment.

I just loved the movie. Part of it was because the location is so fantastic. To be on a Greek Island in an old inn just seems idylic! The movie isn't deep - it's just plain fun. The fact that the actors and actresses sing their songs makes for a more enjoyable movie as well. The songs are from the swedish group, Abba and are just plain fun. I loved how they worked the music into the storyline! The actors are right for the characters; Amanda Seyfried is a fresh young face and great in her part.

I can't think of any negative aspects. Don't expect to see anything deeply intellectual, just expect to be entertained. You will laugh and sing along with the show. In case you really want to sing, the movie has the score with subtitles to help you do just that, after watching the movie, that is.

I LOVE this movie! The music is infectious! (It stays in your head long after the movie is over.) The movie is funny, totally entertaining and a very touching story. I'm a big Meryl Streep fan (she can play ANYBODY!) and she has a wonderful singing voice. The scenery (Greek isles) is lovely. There's nothing to not like about this movie (except maybe Pierce Brosnan's attempts at singing!) lol. If you like nice family entertainment (no cussing and/or violence) and musicals, this movie is for you.

While I would love to have been able to provide a review of this item, unfortunately the seller stiffed me by not sending it, despite my having paid for it via PayPal, and has ignored numerous emails from me asking for either the shipping information, or to refund my money. I also opened a 'Resolution Claim' in PayPal (as instructed by EBAY), only to find out that the seller has since cancelled his EBAY account!

I saw this video at a neighbor's home and I really enjoyed this movie. It was refreshing to be able to watch a movie that did not have all the hot sexy themes that usually are in the movies today. And a big plus is that I have always enjoyed the music of ABBA.

I am an ABBA fan so I couldn't wait to see this movie. I have watched this Dvd 5 times since I received it. It's really fun as there is a sing-a-long version. It is well cast and a great chick flick. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes ABBA, musicals, and romance.
