Making an Exit by Elinor Fuchs (2006)

I checked this book out at the Library, and enjoyed it so much I have bought a copy or 2 on Ebay or somewhere.I have never ever laughed as hard as I did consistently while reading a book.It was written by a very gifted writer, whose mother was odd to begin with, and when she came down w/Alzheimers, it was a very odd, hilarious experience to behold.I called and read portions to my adult Military daughters, and even they chuckled, demanding me to read more and more. They even, as I did, memorized short dialogue sequences in the book.I am not exaggerating, I guarantee you won't ever part with this book.I could, and plan to re read it soon. Her mother instead of stopping talking, makes up her own crazy sounding words, her daughter starts to tape them, realizing how funny her Mother sounds. It is not disrespectful at all, it is just written by the most gifted writer, not one page is boring. When she finally has to place her mom in an institution, her mom, when passing anyone would say things like "Cha cha cha!" with a big lipsticked smile. You will guffaw w/laughter, as Elinor describes how her Mother would dominate the rest home, sometimes sitting down at the piano bench, with her hands lifted in the air, poised as if you were going to hear a grand concert pianoist...I will stop there, I don't want to ruin that passage. And when she discovers her mom's teeth have been exchanged with a male patient, and he had hers in his mouth, well, that is just a sample of many humorous scenes so very uniquely painted verbally by Elinor. This book actually got me started on building a collection of Alzheimers Memoirs.I would never part with this book.I cannot begin to tell you what a release the many spells of laughter I was blessed with as I read it, and over and over as I re read it to my girls! And to thinkit is priced much lower than alot that I have not enjoyed nearly half as much as this one.I wish I could meet Elinor Fuchs! You won't regret buying "Making an Exit" Flowercurls, (Sandra H. Phillips)
