A Watercolor Basic
This book is clear in its message: know your colors and use them appropriately. The directions are clear, and the pictures, which are always important in a painting textbook, are excellent. Follow Jeanne Dobie's directions and you'll never have "mud" (unless, of course you want that look!) The beauty of her work is in its glowing transparency, and you can be sure to achieve the same by just working with the same palette she recommends. Once mastered, this approach will give you control regardless of your personal style. I consider this book a must for the library of any watercolor artist, whether a beginner or an experienced painter.
