Makes Me Wanna Holler

I read this book on recommendation from a Sociology professor. It's a remarkable memoir and inspiring story of transformation. The author, who is brutally honest, attributes the failures in his life to racism (torturing animals, participating in a gang rape, beating up white kids, being convicted of armed robbery), but straigtens out his life after he is paroled from prison, not wanting to condemn himself to a life of misery. He gets a job and finds success in writing for the Washington Post, but finds that racism is as pervasive in the white-collar world as what he experienced growing up in the inner city.
