HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT
Not long after I read this book years ago, I saw it in the 'How To' section at a store. I thought at the time how silly that was as it's clearly a novel, not a self-help book. But, as the years have passed, I've come to realize that this wonderful book is inspirational enough to be one. The story revolves around women of all ages in a small town who gather to piece together a quilt. As they sew, chattering away, we are treated to the joys and disappointments of each woman. We see how this coming together is actually therapy for all of them. How the wisdom of the older ones and new insights of the younger, combine to form the pattern of their lives, and help them resolve their problems. It's enjoyable as a story and I think everyone would identify with some of the ladies and perhaps learn the common threads of life that bring us all together. I've bought it again to read with an older and hopefully wiser outlook.
