Came quickly, though I was out of town when it arrived. Great Book!! Better than the movie. It was well packaged and throughly enjoyable!

  Good title

I really liked the characters and their histories. Would have liked them to interact a little more, instead the author gave out their histories and didn't add much more.
Had a hard time getting into the book. It was kind of disjointed. The tips on quilting were vague. I bought it because I really liked "The Friday Night Knitting club" and one of the reviews from it said this book was the same type of story.

  The movie is better.
Review created: 06/05/07

The storyline in this novel is wonderful and great inpiration for the movie. I usually find a book better than the movie however not in this case. The movie comes alive where the book does not in characters, feelings ect... I was also dissappointed in a recent interview by Whitney Otto where she basically said that she sees the story as a group of women that basically hate each other. I find the movie a better "READ" since they all find ways to forgive the little and big things that bother them. If you are a book fan and do not watch when the movie comes out, I really recommend reading this and then watching the movie. I daresay you will feel the same way!

HOW TO MAKE AN AMERICAN QUILT
Review created: 07/28/06

Not long after I read this book years ago, I saw it in the 'How To' section at a store. I thought at the time how silly that was as it's clearly a novel, not a self-help book. But, as the years have passed, I've come to realize that this wonderful book is inspirational enough to be one. The story revolves around women of all ages in a small town who gather to piece together a quilt. As they sew, chattering away, we are treated to the joys and disappointments of each woman. We see how this coming together is actually therapy for all of them. How the wisdom of the older ones and new insights of the younger, combine to form the pattern of their lives, and help them resolve their problems. It's enjoyable as a story and I think everyone would identify with some of the ladies and perhaps learn the common threads of life that bring us all together. I've bought it again to read with an older and hopefully wiser outlook.
