How to Make an American Quilt by Original Soundtrack (CD, Oct-1995, MCA Records USA)

Since this is one of my all-time favorite movies, I was excited to find the CD available on ebay. I listen to it all the time....it takes me right into the world of the "Grass Valley Quilting Bee". I love how each character has her own theme, and also that the songs of the times (4o's & 50's) are included with all the sweeping melodies. What a pleasure it is to listen to!

I loved the music from the moment I saw this film in the theater. The music has a real personality- both fitting the past and present, along with that special world of dreams, and loves lost and found for the women in this film. It's inspiring music to listen to. Also included are hits by Bing Crosby, Etta James, Neil Diamond, The Inkspots, Patsy Cline and Benny Goodman. Romance, fun and inspiration on one album, with the feel of a bright, summer afternoon. A wonderful soundtrack to be had and shared.

I am a collector of soundtracks, and have most releases of Thomas Newman: one of my favorite composers of film music. The music on this CD is classic, beautiful, Thomas Newman, and I was very happy to find this, since it has been - to my knowledge - out of print. If I have any complaints, it is with the inserts of music from the specific periods of the film, which I wish were bunched together either at the end or beginning of the CD (as was done on Newman's soundtrack: THE WAR) so I could hear all of the score completely through by itself. Otherwise, another gem in my collection of Thomas Newman!
