The first show I watched that seemed to my liking was Magnum,pi. Tom Selleck John Hillerman, Roger E. Mosley, Larry Manetti...later the stars would line up to be reconstructed on this show, as a sort of comeback special. Angela Lansbury had murder she wrote, Tom selleck appeared on her show and she on his. And then there was Simon and Simon the 2 season, where Tom selleck appeared on that show and they on his show.
The very first pilot show...every one would remember, the missing viet vet turned sniper. The show that is not released. Because of the questionable ethics that is shown.
This was the first tv private detective show that touched that small nerve on the back of the head. The crazed viet vet-was he really crazy? Or did he go crazy at home? This show really touched on the small tight spring that was still wound tightly in most of us.
Here was a tv show that spanned longer than most tv shows of it's type. out lasting the cbs movie special mcloud and colombo. Sea Hunt and the Blue Centurion. A new type of crime hero was emerging in our society and included landing in our living rooms, office buildings, bedrooms and front seats of cars. Crime fighters, who knew what they were doing. They were taking the initiative and fighting back. They were solving the missing persons, or taking back control of a fellow citizen.
Here we had 3-viet friends...Thomas Magnum, Rick (orville) wright and TC all from Viet Nam spoending their days in paradise.
In later episodes we learn more about John Hillerman the sgt maj domo...Johnathan Higgins...and his memoirs...and his confession in the season one that he is really Masters...and in the final show of magnum pi
Aloha, Magnum. we learn that Higgins says_ I lied. Where as he smiles.
All of these Magnum shows are classics. We will forever return to a simple time in our lives and recall every emotion and feeling from the day that we saw these shows.
Should we say thank you to Donald P. Belasario who directed the show or to the many stars who did their jobs, or the stars who were the regulars...the line is so long whom to thank first.
