I LOVE MERCEDES LACKEY. <3 So, you should buy it. This series (Magics Pawn is the first book) is about Vanyel. :] If you don't like gay stories, though, this is not for you. This is her first series with a gay protagonist, though.

This is Another excellent book in the heralds of Valdemar saga telling the start of the famous Vanyel Demons-bane. Its a very good read

I have had this book for years, and have re-read it many times in that time. Mercedes Lackey's 'Herald's of Valdemar' series are amazing, but The Last Herald-Mage is my favorite. Magic's Pawn is about his entrance into that world via his thick-skulled father. Truthfully, it has such sad undertones, and I cried a few times reading it, but the book is amazing nonetheless, and I'm always the saddest when it's ended. If you like Science Fiction, or Mercedes Lackey's other stories, or anything with magic and alternate worlds, then this is a good book for you. I promise, you'll be hooked from the beginning.
